Summer Transfer Window 2017

not really that simple, i don't think burnley would have agreed to the deal at any price, unless we did something stupid, which i'm glad we didn't. They knew they could easily be suckered into a relegation battle, so they didn't need their best player already signed up for a new club and thus discfocused and even if they did entertain the idea, they knew a lot of clubs will be interested this summer, they had nothing to gain from saying "ok everton, we'll sell you him now". You don't know we didn't try that tbh and well if he isn't our top target why would we have done it ourselves? Imagine if he broke his leg like coleman did in his next game, we'd look stupid having splashed out £30m for him and not able to see him in a year. I know that's an if and but itself, but it could have derailed all of our summer planning.

So lets say he is our top target, which i'd say it is, what would you suggest we should do, or have done to get the player before any of the other sides come waltzing in then bud?

I do agree that these "sign in january but do the deal in summer" things do not happen very often in this country.
But Sule at Hoffenheim (who are in a race for the champions league) has just signed for Bayern, would that not derail Heffenheims champions league bid? Surely if Hoffenheim have done it surely there would be a way of getting burnley to do it?

Without using Gary Cahill as my only ever example, he had been jibbed by Villa also, when he left Bolton did that stop him from going to a big club?

I 100% agree with your we are a club with a bright future things, I am just wary of how some of the "old guard" of the board deal with things.
I just think we should of got in there early with Keane, even if it meant over paying a little and got a deal agreed with Burnley and the player to ensure none of these other clubs came swooping in to challenge us.

Its all if's and buts, but lets say Liverpool and Arsenal also wanted Schneiderlin in January, who do you think he would of chose to go too? (I know that Utd wouldnt of sold to either of Arsenal or Liverpool but just say if they would of)

Who knows?

He may have chosen us because he knows the manager, he wouldn't have to move house and he fancies us to push on? Schniederlin is another player for me who has dealt with the hardships of football (coming up via the lower leagues) that he hopefully wouldnt just be attracted to the glamour of playing for a big club.

Thing is we wont know unless we try. What you are suggesting is a nice idea in practice but its pretty rare. I doubt Burnley would have wanted their most important player staying at the club with one eye on his move in the summer.

Milk is 6'1 I think.

Reina and Ghoulam are 6'2. Looks the same as them to me. Albiol is 6'3. He looks shorter than Albiol to me. :)

Most sources list his height as 194 or 195cm including Wiki

The notable exception being the relatively reliable Transfermarkt which lists him as 187cm - very big difference and supports your assertion

Dunno

I agree with what you are saying but without sounding all negative, why should we care what Burnley wanted?
The top teams are renowned for coming in and unsettling the apple cart (Chelsea with pretty much every big player they sign).
Last summer was proof are "tactics" did not work, are we to nice? how many times do you hear of players being "in talks" with us, then going away and signing for someone else.
"Here's the offer pal, go and enjoy your holiday and when you come back you can sign this contract"
Then they go and talk to somene else and get a better offer

i think because of the new TV deals in the prem, teams in this league can't really be compared to leagues abroad. They now get hundreds of millions from all the broadcasting rights etc. for staying in the prem, there's now a chasm of difference in staying in the prem vs the championship and this also means these small clubs like burnley can't be bullied into accepting small fees anymore, as would have been the case just two years ago.

There's every chance maybe we did try and do what you suggested and maybe burnley said okay if you offer us £40m we'll sell now, otherwise we'll take this to the summer where you'll have to compete with the others. In essence, we don't really know, better alternative players could all of a sudden become available and i'd hate us to go "feck, we could have had someone much better for £10m less". This is the reason we've brought in walsh though, keane will be just one of many alternatives so if we miss out on one we won't stress and work our way down the list.

I realise most sites say that but if you watch him you can see he's not. Just look at the above pic ffs. There's no debate.

I saw a recent study that showed people perceive black men to be taller than white men of the same build. So clearly everyone is a bad bad racist.

are you really debating someones height??

Completely off topic but wouldn't it be fun if Arsenal needed 3 points from their final game to pip the RS for 4th place.
Now the question is 'Would their opponents in that final game grant them their wish'??

That could depend on if we beat Arsenal it would put us in 6th place.
NEA about anything the rs do to be honest.
