Ross Barkley

I'd like to keep Ross but today shows why we need other creative options.
This in a nutshell. Let's face it Ross is the only one who supplies any creativity to our play. When he is off his game, we just don't look like the same team. You only have to look at the wins since the turn off the year, there is no coincidence that it has occurred during ross' best form for the team. We are far to reliant on Ross and desperately need more creativity in the squad next season, with or without Ross.

Ross was poor today, along with most of the team, but you have got to have some sympathy for him when Lukaku is statuesque and not offering anything to play to.

..Lukaku might be worthy of criticism but it can't always be the fault of others when Barkley fails to perform. When others are failing your very top players deliver but he rarely does that. I might be wrong but Barkley 1-0 isn't a scorecast I'd be thinking is frequent. As I say, he's one of our major players but it is possible we can get somebody better in whether he stays or not.

..Lukaku has scored pivotal goals for us, including against the Reds and against Chelsea in the FA Cup. I like Barkley, I rate Barkley but I'm afraid we can do better.
But look at his progress under koeman this year. I think he will get better and continue to improve under koeman.

...that's very fair, he's definitely improved under Koeman.
Those players who haven't improved under koeman (Baines, Williams, miralles) are either no longer good enough or not able to respond to the higher intensity football he demands. If it wasn't for European football next season, I could see all 3 bring surplus to requirements.

I always appreciate your views as someone with good football knowledge and experience, and I also feel that Ross has some way to go in his development to become a top class player. However, I do think he has the ability and can make that step.

I was one of those who were very sceptical initially, probably because he was over-hyped, but that isn't his fault. I think he is making steady progress and would like to see him fulfil his potential at Everton.

I'd like to throw a good 28.94% of our fans in the bin.

He doesn't have to be the world's greatest every week, quit it with the knee-jerking. From season start to season end Ross Barkley will contribute positively to a level more than sufficient to deserve his place in the squad, bench or the majority of the time in the first team. Yep, he will have bad moments, mistakes, bad games and poor runs of form but by season end he will always have played his part.

It's only annoying fans and the media that have to go overboard with the criticism just because he is not as good the overhyping suggested. He is a bloody good but flawed local boy. He has rarely, if at all, had real quality and experience up beside him in that attack when it comes to controling a game, working space and linking play. Today he had to do it all to try keep a below par team going. Then it doesn't come off against a parked bus and man marking and the boring know it alls are waiting to tear strips off him.

Who would you get in instead, if we sold Barkley? Or who are we likely to get in as we won't be in the CL?

This.

Most will say Sigurdson (who I do want). But when he doesn't turn up for a game the same problem will still be there.

Ross needs help when he's not effective and not "he needs selling for a better player."

We're too quick to blame our only two players with actual quality when they don't effect a game and forget about the other squad players

I think the only reason Barkley is highlighted is because the fans want him to lead by example and be our go to hero.
Mirallas isn't mentioned because he is someone we can do better than. He is not the young local icon we want to build the club around.

Hence the frustration when he has an anonymous game.

That's my point tho because he's local, people feel he should be far better than any other player, or when the team is playing badly it's his fault because he's the local lad. He may well play better without the shackles of that tag in another team, he may also be thinking this himself.

He shouldn't be castigated or over criticised because he is not a leader on the pitch or the local hero winning loads of matches. He should be accepted as he is. A very good premiership player who much like many others will have bad games.

Supporters should support

No way would I have Sigurdsson, tried at Spurs and failed, if we are aiming at that level then we have to avoid such players. I agree bring in quality around him and we will see the best of him.
