Ross Barkley

Telling the club that he wants to stay and will never play for anybody else is not a clever negotiating tactic when it comes to discussing a new contract.

Could be, but I doubt that would have been a factor. He's a professional in the media limelight, lying like that would be against the integrity of being a reporter and putting his reputation on the line on a made up lie.
I'd think that if it weren't for the long track record of his and other kopites in the media showing fairly obvious bias

He'd be amazing at Spurs, would instantly go up another level imo

I imagine he's somewhat aware of this and sometimes wonder if he wants to escape the pressure of being the hometown hero.

Id perhaps feel the same given the way some of our fans have abused him.
I feel like, with the emergence of Davies, that the hometown hero pressure has already reduced substantially. He's leaner, his demeanour is much calmer (largely due to replacing the skinhead with a raggedy mop), and he seems to be playing with more freedom (mentally). Are the fans in the ground still getting on his case?

Heavy sarcasm there Moomin. at least I hope it is!!!!!

He's also a clear supporter of our rivals and would be one of the first to undermine and/or wind up our club and supporters.

Jamie Redknapp is not clever enough for them sort of comments.

On the Ross thing though, i never really thought he would want to go anywere else to be honest, why would he?

The Redknapp thing has got me a little concerned though, especially with the odd comment in the interview. Does he feel a move will get him back in favour with england? Does he want to experience something different to Everton?

I would be gutted to lose Barkley ahead of any player at the club

I am not concerned with anything Jamie Redknapp has to say.

Neither would I usually but the comment came 2 days after he did an interview with Barkley for the Daily Mail.

Barkleys latest comments aren't exactly 'everton till i die' either. He mentions wanting to test himself at the highest level, champs league etc

Not saying I think he's going but im more concerned about the possibility of it happening than i have been at any other time.

A year ago most of the people I see at the match faced with the possibility of Barkleys departure would have shrugged , most had given up on him. It seemed we had seen the best of him, sporadic flashes of brilliance in attack coupled with a frustrating propensity to run into dead ends. Out of possession he was largely ineffectual, a gaping hole in the the all important centre of the park. He appeared an addition to the team rather than part of it.
This season he has become a central part of the team. Continually probing and directing attacks and battling to regain the ball when not in possession. His improvement has been impressive and most would be sorry if he did decided to leave. If he continues as he is I could see him as our future captain. Koeman has managed him impeccably.
