Ross Barkley

Purely speculative of course, however I'm sure there's a contract in the pipeline but perhaps Koeman has challenged Barkley to show his worth.

If he continues to perform as he has and develop further as an influential player in our XI then I'm confident a contract will follow shortly.

I genuinely believe when Koeman asked about it back in December, and said it wasnt a priority, i think that in a way was saying to Ross 'Prove you deserve a contract extension' and low and behold, since December, Russ has been brilliant.

I hope you're right, not sure why you think he wants to stay but I've no doubt it will come down to money. I see the trash press have labelled him a 'contract rebel' today, how they love to stir it up. I think we really need to pull everything out to keep him and Lukaku.
Maybe I'm biased (in fact I am!), but I just think he's a Blue and also loves to play for us. Niaive people may call it too! But yes, if he and Rom stay it can only be good.

It's funny that some have said he was rubbish yesterday, thought he was comfortably our best outfield player. Came in for a lot of the physical stuff and kept showing for the ball all day. He looks a lot happier now and seems like he has earned Koemans trust now. Think the emergence of Davies has helped Ross as he doesn't have to shoulder the local lad burden all on his own anymore.

I did wonder about his future under Koeman, but now I think it's a simple as him not being considered a superstar by this manager. He still seems to be very much part of the plans.

I know he isn't in the goals as much this season, but I think he's been better than ever in possession. Definite comparisons with Dembele at Spurs for me.

I think personally that a managers playing experience counts. With respect Moyes and Martinez didn't set the world alight as players whereas Koeman won the lot and was regarded one of the greatest ever in his position. As a previous elite player it's a lot easier for Koeman to not get overexcited about Ross or Rom for example but to be able to tell them what they need to do to take it to the next level instead and keep developing them.
