Usmanov

Honestly, I don't think you buy naming rights for a training ground. This is an excercise to navigate round fair play essentially self sponsorship maybe?

Regarding the training ground as an asset, I think the deal is for advertisement only and not a purchase, but seeing as USM don't really need to advertise, I'd say we're enjoyably taking the mick.

Think you right. My take is like a contract. So 5 year deal means the cost gets expensed over the life of the contract. Its not something they hold indefinitely and can sell on. Interesting to read USM have a stake in Airbnb for instance amongst others.. so maybe some of those brands will get some visibility now, encompassed in the deal.

Imagine being sponsored by Gazprom though :pint2:

Wouldn't hold your breath on that.
Everton had very cordial discussions with Gazprom a couple of years ago and they said then that other than Schalke 04 and the clubs they sponsor in Russia, they had no plans to expand club sponsorship elsewhere. Things might have changed...

I don't want to be in the killjoy camp but didnt Moshiri sell his Arsenal stake to Usmanov?

That would not fit with both of them deciding they wanted out of Arsenal and to use Moshiri as a stalking horse to get his foot in the door at Everton.

Don't me me wrong through, I think this sponsorship is very good news, great news potentially.

We need to get with the times in the PL - whatever creative imagination/accounting needs to be done to get money into the club on a legitimate basis - these guys are past masters at this sort of thing - circumventing "rules" and exploiting opportunties.

I am sure that those seasoned in doing business on such a large and successful scale in Russia and the former Soviet Union simply just get things done and the FA/UEFA are not even considered small fry to these people.

It is exactly this sort of mentality that we need at Everton - as Nike say - "Just Do It" and entire galaxies away from what an Elstone-led commercial operation can deliver.

Well done Moshiri, very well done indeed.

It would fit perfectly with that idea of stalking horse mate tbh, it was the quickest way to sell the shares, it was also the way they could guarantee a high price for those shares giving Moshiri more capital to work with initially. If it had become known that Moshiri needed out and a quick sale he would have gotten fleeced on the shares - never mind the complication that Moshiri never individually owned Arsenal shares either - they c0-owned a comapny which had the 30% stake, Usmanov simply bought out Moshiri's half of that company R&W Holdings.

Can't think of how else Moshiri could have possibly sold up at Arsenal without screwing his mate over if that was even a possibility to sell his share of R&W without joint permission from Usmanov.

At the very least todays news is by and of itself fantastic news anyway, the portents of what it could mean is just the iceing in the top

The big one will be if we move stadium would they buy the naming rights. If so that would tell us more regarding Usmanovs possible intentions ie. A massive name sponsership which wouldn't raise eyebrows as much as a large one for a training ground.

Which is why for me it's of great interest if they do become involved in any way, it would mark an absolutely monumental shift in stance and would more than suggest someone pulling strings on our behalf who has great influence with them mate.

USM Will certainly buy naming rights for our future stadium aswell. They wont spend massive amountson sponsering our ground as if it is Usmanov trying to put money into us offering a massive amount for a training ground would be suspicious as hell and against market prices.

The interesting one will be the stadium name/possible shirt sponsership.

Unbelievably brilliant Stadium on the Mersey

Hope I'm not getting too excited but this Usmanov malarkey tells me the docks is a done deal, otherwise he'll just buy Peel Holdings and sack the lot of them. he could even buy Liverpool the City, and knock down Anfield, how cool would that be.
