Ronald Koeman discussion

Why didn't it that season? In fact didn't we finish about 5-6 points behind 4th?

So why did we not qualify with 72 points?

The league was crap that year...

So you think jelavic is boss then do you? Can't be a fraud ... he scored 16 in his first 20 games ...

You think ranieri is the best manager in the world because of last season?

Flukes happen... but they don't carry on forever ... you mentioned Moyes had time to get those finishes.... and had one very bad season where he got our lowest points tally in 50 years? Bobby has been managing in the prem for how long? 8? He has had one league placing in the top half of the table ( and that was with Moyes's drfence) every team he has managed concedes more goals that the previous season.. he's crap, deluded and stubborn...

Actually I'm starting to see why you can relate to him so much

Devils advocate here, yes flukes happen but you can't take away the fact it happened, they still achieved it so for that period of time yes they were at the top of their game. If flukes didn't happen, Wimbledon would never have won the FA Cup :p

It's also not true anyone can win a cup, plenty haven't.

Of course. Why would I avoid stating that?!

But RM won the cup with an ale house resourced club and got EFC's biggest points haul since the glory days of the 80s. That outstrips Big Joe (I loved JR but it's the truth .)

He relegated Wigan at the sametime though.

Ok so you think Martinez achieved more and better managers than both Royle (FA Cup winner and 6th) and Moyes (4th-7th 8 times) at Everton football club during his tenure. Fine, this is your opinion.

Doesn't outstrip big Joe for me.

Joe Royle won the cup and stayed up.

Martinez won the cup and got relegated.

Try to stay vaguely Koeman related lads.

it is my opinion. It's also a pretty good position on the issue. Martinez is unquestionably a better coach than Big Joe and Moyes.

Mate, Joe relegated both Oldham and City.

As said, I wont hear a bad word against the feller. But he's not a manager who outstrips Martinez as a coach (man management - YES!)

Martinez was [Poor language removed]. Ronald so far has us 7th. That is the minimum we should be at when you consider the teams above us at the moment. The gap between the top 7 and the rest will increase over the season. Ronny's task over the next season or two is to close the gap between us and the six above us so that we are competing as many of the places above us as possible. We would not be 7th if Bobby was here now. We would not have signed Gana Gueye with Bobby here. Things are getting better

None of this has anything to do with Ronko, who's doing a solid job.

It will be interesting to see the shape of the side if he acquires Deeps* and another attacking player.

He's rotated a lot thus far, when he had good runs with Southampton did he rotate constantly or stick with a winning team?

To be fair, we are probably mainly in 7th due to the £28m goal machine up front that "Bobby" did sign

Perhaps so but maybe we wouldn't have to rely solely on Lukaku if Martinez had known his business and not brought other awful strikers like Kone and Niasse thus providing no support for his 'goal machine'.

Besides we finished 11th and 13th with Martinez's 'goal machine' under Martinez management so it's a little rich to give him credit now we're 7th with Koeman.

Signing Lukaku was the one good thing that Bobby did do. However you have to judge him over his tenure. We were getting worse. He was never going to turn us around. With the off the field upturn in the club it would have been a travesty for that to be wasted with him running the team. Koeman makes us solid an I expect us to look better in the second half of this season. I don't think we will finish above 7th but I think we will pull away from 8th. This will be a solid first season which I think is what we need after being the completely opposite of solid for the last couple of seasons
