I'm saying the crap fans, i.e ones who jump on the lads back because they don't want the club to sign him so they criticise him and won't appreciate what he can do in the team now. Not aimed at anyone as i haven't trawled through the thread. Just saying in the perspective that not everyone praising valencia wants the club to sign him necessarily, just a decent fan can praise him without suddenly calling him 'the answer' so to speak.

Perhaps my words could have been re worded differently to what i really mean, not accusatory, just making the point that generally as fans we can praise him without wanting him long term.

Why can't we just praise him when he does well and hate him when he's crap?

That is what i mean, just don't get how people can be so against him (again not aiming it) just because they don't want him at the club next year.

I think he is terrible, but is the best attacking option we have away from rom so absolutely play him in the team right now.

He is doing a job by freeing up Rom and causing problems with his energy and direct running. Just like you I don't think he is the answer but makes it perfectly clear we need someone similar (better and can score goals) to play with and get the best from Rom. Koeman used him perfectly against Soton as they couldn't cope with his energy at that stage of the game and Rom came into his own. Also helped the midfielders with an extra target ahead of them. Does a decent job but I am sure we can get better.

I have a theory, that he may have looked crap in games up until Southampton because he's a striker being played on the wing.

But he doesn't play on the wing even when he's supposed to be. His instinct takes him forward to the middle.

Which is both good and bad when he's meant to be wide.

We just generally look better in a 442 to me.

Yeah but he's clearly not been played next to Lukaku in most games, his starting position has been wide right so as a result he's seen most of the ball in that area. Yeah we definitely do, we don't have the players to play the 4-2-3-1 which is why it infuriates me that we've persisted with it for so long. It's no coincidence we were crap on Monday once DCL had to go off and we reverted back to it, and then picked up again when Valencia came on up front.

Aye he certainly is the best we have now to play that role so by all means play him now. What i can't personally forget is that despite the goal this week, he isn't a very good goalscorer, and generally we do need that position if perminant to be chipping in with more goals throughout the season. There is a reason why West ham didn't want him, so i wouldn't want the club then thinking they don't need better.

but in the strange scenario he chipped in with a fair few goals this season now he is getting a run in the team then i would be happy to change my tune on him. Can't argue with the results in that scenario!

remember years ago when we signed Beardsley, he was so much better than the rest of the side it was embarrassing, he was past his best too.

That was the first time football broke my heart... I worshiped him and nev.... I literally wanted to give up on football when we sold him (against his wishes) ..... for 1M ... because Howard wanted money for dion Dublin... to make it worse Beardsley was awesome for Newcastle and was still one of the best players in the league
