in the modern games these days it all about work rate. unfortunatly this is where he is lacking. i dont think you can coach workrate into certain individuals either, seems gerri maybe one of these.

and pienaar was everything gerri isnt. hard working, intelligent and scored aswell as assisting in his prime

That's what I'm getting at. They have similar skill levels but the application, desire and sacrifice is missing from Del's game.

It could be background that's the difference. Pienaar had to scrap every inch of the way from the streets of Johannesburg, through the Ajax academy and the competition there to European leagues before he landed here.

Geri on the other hand has been indulged from an early age. He found playing amongst his peers easy and didn't really have to try in order to stand out. Now he's at the top level, he doesn't know how to push himself to his limits and beyond because he's never had to do that before as if his whole life depended on it because it never has.

So the gist of the post is this. Pienaar is what he should be aiming to be, not where he is now.
