Ronald Koeman discussion

We're seventh, on thirty points with just over half the season over.

That's by no means an outstanding achievement, but it's not awful either.

Doubtless in what's left of the season we'll hit another bad patch and the knives will be out, but Koeman's doing a reasonable job.

In the next eighteen months he needs to show that he can move us on a little from our current league position and do that while improving the quality of what we see on the pitch, which isn't wonderful at the moment, but tis early days.

If he does that, then no reasonable Evertonian can complain.
I agree. That would represent progress.

Apparently if that's put forward by others though it cant be tolerated.

With us: one top 5 and two midtable places. I dont see Koeman eclipsing that all told, tbh. Probably he'll get us three solid (7th/8th) finishes and get off.

That's just all complete conjecture though. I'd rather he made us a solid top 7 team again with a solid base to move forward, rather than have a flash in the pan season then absolutely destroy the base that team was built on.

There is no game mate. I'm offering a reasonable overview of the way today's match panned out and my thoughts on the manager's chances here based on over half a season's worth of evidence.

Thats fair enough. My assessment, like anyone gives a hoot anyrate, is that he had a rubbish Summer window, (dont think many would disagree), the squad was unfit, and undisciplined. (Again, not sure many would disagree).

He/We got 2 important players in, but again, at the time, no one celebrated either signings really. His biggest signing divides opinion, but is now out for the season, so file under "Meh".

I aint an expert, but I have seen him switch formations, be hit and miss on subs, (largely hit imo), seems to be getting a tune out of Ross, and today started with 2 youngsters, one of which went off injured, early, the other who is a realistic choice for MOTM.

His loan signing did ok. (But one swallow and all that applies to all of the last 2 paras).

Despite some claiming Hoofball, it aint. We have played some great stuff, mixed with some more "pragmatic" footie, when needed.

And we are 7th. Behind clubs with wage bills and spending way above ours.

In 6 months.

Not sure what some expect sometimes.

It's acceptable position wise. Only a fool would deny that after wo seasons in the doldrums on that score.

But hand on heart mate, I've seen enough to know what kind of football we have in prospect here and it wont be a success at breaking through any ceiling above us.

Its more or less the half way point and I think he has done okay. Nothing special. I didn't want him and dont expect much from him but he has been fine.

Points total and position is decent and maybe better than many expected at start of the season. Performances have not been good at all from the start of the season up to now. We have had maybe one or two games where we played well for a full game. He has us hoofing it way more than I can handle and we have been utterly dreadful in many games.

The squad is neither the best since the 80s nor is it pathetic, but I personally would hope a good manager can get the best out of what they have whilst waiting to change the squad. I'm not sure he has done so, or at least not so consistently.....performance-wise.

The first step to stabilizing us under Koeman and hopefully pushing onward is this January window and then the summer. It will make or break his time here. I have my concerns about his/Walshs choices if they really wanted Bolasie, but Gana has been superb.

An FA Cup win would be the best that could happen to him and the club right now so I hope he has them right up for the game v Leicester.

5/10
