Ross Barkley

Neither the "he's surrounded by crap players" or "we don't support him enough" make any sense as explanations as to why he is under-performing to me.

Lukaku shows that you can be heavily and unfairly criticised (easily as much as Barkley) at a young age, not let it bother you and continue to develop well as a player towards your full potential.

Lukaku also shows that being surrounded by crap players needn't stunt your development. Barkley has put in great performances on occasion while surrounded by "crap players" (apart, obviously from the top class striker he plays alongside).

The two are extremely similar in many ways. They're the same age, playing for the same team, both are internationals, they're both talented (Barkley being the more talented in my view) and both have had to deal with high expectations.

Pretty much the only big, but crucial, difference between the two is one is clearly very single-minded and driven to achieve his career goals, with complete confidence in his ability and is able to handle set-backs, constant scrutiny, criticism, high expectations and bad performances. The other apparently has literally none of these qualities. That's the fault of neither the fans nor his teammates. You cannot get to the top of the game (which is where talents like Barkley belong) without being tested at some point by the above obstacles.

Two ex-RS on the panel. Who would believe it?

Then again, it was Carragher and Redknapp in the studio for the Hull v Everton game.
Today, on Sky, it's Souness and Carragher.

If anyone can't see that this is wrong then they are blind.
Not doubting that for a second mate. They do occasinally talk a bit of sense though.

Bit unusual to see so many ex players (all kopites btw), having a pop at a manager so publicly. Redknapp, Charagher and Gerrard all criticising Koeman for criticising Barkley.

Lukaku's all round game is poor though. He nets. Thats it. Thats his end product to disguise his faults. He can have shockers but score so people will take it easy.

Barkley could run a midfield in a game but because he didn't score or get an assist, he'll get criticised for it. He has to have that all round game and do it 4 games in a row to get people off his back.

Theres the difference.

Notice that it's OK to openly criticise all things Everton but when Neville criticised Karius they closed ranks. That criticism was clearly valid given that he has since been passed over for Mignolet.

He could run a game, he just rarely does. He's more likely to play a passive role in games.

He usually plays a position very important to our link up with the striker and chance creation. In this position he could also mask any underperformance with assists for the great finisher he plays with, but doesn't. That's the difference for me.

Of course they talk some sense at times but we need to question their agenda. They don't seem to have a good word to say whereas Redknapp said the other day that Liverpool deserve to win the league and it will be good for football. The problem is that most fans listen to the garbage they promote. The ability to influence the media should not be underestimated.

I touched on that earlier. What do they have to gain by having an agenda against us? We're so far off where they are it's embarrassing.

Mate!!! Your talking pooh... please tell me when ross has been critised after running a game? Also he has never done it 4 times in the trot. He gets abuse because he wanders around the pitch not challenging for the ball and showing no effort or passion. When things don't go your way , you need to put the work in or else the fans won't like it... it's that simple
