Now, I am an Evertonian through and through, the only other club side I care about is Chester because that is where I am from. I don't like Tranmere and I certainly don't like Wrexham. But what I don't like more than that is Barry Horne on my radio.

To me he has already made up his mind about Yakubu, and about Piennar. These guys may as well [Poor language removed] off now becuase according the apparant substantial knowledge by this prick, they are clearly not in the same league as Simon Davies or Kevin Kilbane.

Today he just couldn't wait to criticise Yakubu and Piennar. Even going as far as saying that Piennar was fortunate to get the goal. Yet, he constantly defended the shiteness that was often emitted from the play of Kilbane and Davies. Ok Davies may be doing well now, but he was bollocks at Everton yet Horne constantly backed them all the way. Getting quite vocal at times.

Personally I don't think Barry Horne was a good player, he was gash before he scored that goal against a keeper who through the game, and then if it was for the brilliance that was Joe Parkinson, Horne would not have been celebrated as much as he was. So maybe that is where he is coming from, defending the crap because that's largely what he was.

Well back to the game, I was unhappy with the way Yakubu was dragged off with 30mins to go, I feel this guy needs minutes and goals, Anichebe isn't going to teach us anything. But then to bring VDM into the squad and then not play him when the game was pretty much won was a complete waste of an opportunity.

softly softly with vdm, why should he get a run out before others that havnt been off the rails?

'threw' the game*

victor came on to give woodgate a problem, because it was the easiest days work hes ever had against yakubu. it also made sense to go 4-5-1 and utilise vic to hold the ball up which he did fairly well.

we got the clean sheet AND moyes gave baines some time at left wing :D

Commentators are all tits, especially radio commentators. As are some pundits, not all, but some.

But I've never agreed with anything I've heard about a match on the radio.

Sorry Ghost I couldn't disagree more. Yakubu was awful all game. He was soaked to the skin, heavy footed and puffing his cheeks out after just 20 minutes in to the game. He never won FA in the air. He never put pressure on the backline for Faddy. He totally [Poor language removed] up in front of goal twice, luckily the 1st time Jo Lescott was there to show him how it is done.
I couldn't help smirking with the Boro fans chants of 'you fat [Poor language removed]'. They were right if you are being honest with yourself.

Don't get me wrong here, Yakubu is not without talent. But to use him, Everton must play to his strengths and that is with wingers smashing balls in from the wings and dropping the ball right where Yak needs it, at his feet.

That is not the type of game we play. That is why the likes of Beattie and AJ(to a lesser extent) and now Yakubu are suffering when they play for us.
It is not because they are [Poor language removed], it is because we don't play to their strengths.

We need a forward who runs the channels and can hold up the ball until support arrives. That is the priority 1 and 2 pre-requisites for any striker up front playing for Everton.
Yakubu cannot run. He is out of energy after 20 minutes(after putting in minimal effort and giving Heskey a run for his money in the wobbly feet stakes), is not prepared to chase balls. Cannot header the ball for the knock on, so gets very little from the game other than in set pieces when we can put the ball right to him.

Anichebe on the other hand(like AJ), is good in the air. Is quick. Has LOTS more stamina than Yak, is very very physical and can hold the ball up after picking it out the air from a punt upfield.

When Vic came on today, for those brief 20 minutes our whole game changed and we looked better for it. Vic attacked the ball, knocked it on and won balls in the air, he was .. to put it mildly.. [Poor language removed] ace lad.
Sadly Moyes then introduced Yobo and broke the midfield completely so Vic had little to work with.

We won't see much mileage from Yakubu until we get him VERY fit(2 seasons away at least.. see Beattie for an example 7in7...) OR Moyes plays Arteta on the right wing and VDM on the left dropping balls very accurately on to Yakubu.

I'm not shooting you down in flames there G, but that is just the way we play.

EDIT: oh forgot to say. Barry Horne does annoy me with his views about 20% of the time. He does suck up to Davies far too much (think Wales...), but overall I do like his commentary and feedback in phone-ins. His observations are not always to popular taste, but give the man his due he is spot on more than he is wrong and is prepared to back himself all the way!

Bollocks, My point about Horne is that he has already made his mind up about certain players, as have people here. But hey [Poor language removed] ho!!!!

what would you like a commentator to say? and would you care to expand on the comment about forum members having made their respective minds up? :)

Horne was a third rate player and is a first rate tit when it comes to commentary. I gave up on him years ago, Ronnie Goodlass on Radio Merseyside is better, but only marginally.

well, he doesnt call lescott, 'julian', which is a plus.

there were a few wasters in the side that horne was in.

i listened to goodlass on the radio coming home, and he was talking bollocks by and large.

for me, a commentator giving my a basic idea of the game and some sort of picture of the goals is about all i can ask, i have on occasion heard aldridge on city and im glad we dont have such a myopic tosspile like him trying to brainwash us with his brand of toxic drivel.

I did say only marginally better than Horne

When was he ever any different, Aldo is a [Poor language removed] head of the first order

Actually Ghost. Rob Hawthorne on Sky today, kick his commentary off with a snearing comment as the lads came out to the effect of 'here comes Everton, the self styled peoples club' the snide like tone in his voice on those wors was most marked. Hawthorne is a life long rs I understand, he should be able to commentate on our matches with impartiality or be banned from them altogether:mellow:
