If a professional footballer is being bypassed by the ball then surely he needs to put himself in a different place on the pitch - be it dropping back or pushing up.

No, it is partly that and saying things like "he's just been horrific" is ridiculous, there are multiple reasons for a player going down the shitter so quickly.. Saying it's because he's just been horrific is ridiculous, stuff happens for a reason. He didn't just magically become rubbish.

Also you're hardly a beacon of impartiality when it comes to him.
