Ross Barkley

Can't help feel a lot of these comments apply to most of the squad and can't really work out why people are targeting Ross.

Maybe the influence of the media? I don't know. But when I see the headlines, then read Koemans comments; the 2 never add up. The rags will always try to make something out of nothing, think we should judge with our eyes.

IMO, Ross is improving and as soon as we see some better ball playing midfielders around him, he will thrive. Will be interesting to see his form come February/March, when hopefully we have some more quality in the squad.

...I think it's a very good point about comments applying to others. Perhaps by asking them to do consistently more he's found a number of our players out. They simply are not the quality footballers we need to take us to the next level.

Eggs-actly! :)

As much as I hate to say it, i think we're missing the likes of Osman and Pienaar. We seem to just have tacklers in the team now and no link players. A reason I'd like to see Tom Davis thrown in there.

When Barks gets the ball, he has no option as Rom doesn't move and the rest of the midfield are behind him. He plays the ball backwards, gets the crowd on his back. Tries to find Lukaku, gets the crowd on his back. Tries to dribble, 3 players on him, loses the ball, crowd on his back.

Bart Simpson summed this one up well, "damned if you do, damned if you don't".

Take his tackle in the derby, that horrible t*#t from the RS did exactly the same, if not worse and nothing, still a hero. Barks does it, everyone has an opinion.

...unfortunately, I would include Barkley in the list of players the manager might have found out. The reality from the Derby is that Henderson had Barkley on toast, it was man v boy. The tackle was horrendous and the reality is that Henderson should've been the one kicking Barkley, not the other way around.

Failure of Koeman to get anything out of him. Shouldn't be hanging him out in front of the media like this. If you don't rate him, sell him, if you do then coax some better performances out of him. He's still the same player who did all those jaw dropping things in 13/14.

Conte has created a system to give Hazard what he wants, he's made Victor Moses and Marco Alonso look like footballers and Liz and Cahill look like decent defenders. For 6 mill a year I think Koeman can get a tune out of Barkley and do a little bit better than effectively washing his hands of his poor form.

I agree about the tackle but after so many against us in the derbies, I have to admit.. I enjoyed that moment the most. Even if I end up in hell for it! :)

Local lad who loves the club and has still has a massive amount of potential and personal motivation to offer. Against a French mercenary who has already snubbed us....... I stick with Barkley every time
I despair at some supporters who think a new fancy named foreign player with an inflated price tag is better than what we have.

....but what we have is clearly not good enough. I have no real view on who should come in but change is required and RK has been tasked with making that change.

Apart from 3-4 months at the start of last season he been average at best for 2 1/2 years. He's not kicked on, In my opinion he'll never get to anywhere near what was projected. No manager has ever really fancied him at any level, he definitely is missing something key, something that good players have.

Moyes was not willing to rush him into the first team and perhaps we are now seeing why. However Davek's messiah (bobby) thought it was a great idea and has possibly ruined one of the best prospects the club has ever had

Talk of a swop for Sissoko reminds of when I was a kid and Noell Edmunds was doing that swop shop gig.

Hiya Noel I'd like to swop this half eaten Mars bar for a brand new BMX bike please.

the only failure is from barkley himself.

You go with your shinny foreign mercenary, I am happy with Ross. Do you really believe Sisoko is a better option

As I mentioned earlier, he's not a kid any more and nor is he new to the higher echelons of the footballing pyramid; this is his fourth season!

I'm not advocating his sale or questioning his potential, however I think we've got to start to be realistic with regards to what we expect from him.

People may justifiably criticise his mentorship under Martinez or question what Koeman has done for him, yet he also has to burden part of it.

Unless he, with support from others, can improve his decision making and consistency then I think we need to realise that he may only be good...

... and nothing more. He may not be the great domestic and international player we all hoped for; I hope he does, but it's now looking less likely.

Perhaps we need to lower our expectations or find players who can support his play. Maybe it'll even need adjustment to a new position in the XI.

However, we're now three and a bit years down the line and he is still struggling to impose himself on a game and has many obvious deficiencies.

He shouldn't be excusable simply because he's a blue and may be great, and maybe we need to accept that he needs to warrant a place here.
