The results in Europe on Thursday and some stats I've been thinking about...
We've won (or drawn) 95% of the games Heitinga's played in this season.
We've only lost by one goal difference when he has played in 5% of the games.
We've only lost heavily in Europe or the league before Heitinga was introduced at Centre Back as a permanent fixture.
Looking at Yobo - continually hitting floating long balls on Thursday always his first option, showed me the HUGE difference between him and Heitinga.
Heitinga has what I'd term a "footballing brain". He thinks about what he's doing and aims for people with pacey balls - but with precision too. Not perfect, but they're generally very good.
He also slows the game down to take pressure off the midfield when he can and allow players to take up new positions and knows (which is crucial in Europe) that possession is key and knows when to keep possession. Our defeat on Thursday was all about us being unable to keep consistent possession, not helped by consistent Yobo hoofs.
Frankly with someone as quality as Heitinga, he's had a huge huge huge part in turning our season around - especially in the league.
He's kept Drogba, Rooney quiet and others.
All in all Heitinga and (a fully fit Jags) are head and shoulders the best two players at the back at the club.
Jags because he reads the game ahead - and is/was more pacey than Heitinga
Heitinga because he can pass and distribute and uses the ball.
The thought of Jags and Heitinga at the back - for Everton made me feel better about Lisbon.
They are our / Moyes' first choice I would say at the back.
Just lost for words with Yobo at the moment. Its now no surprise he cant get ahead of Distin or Heitinga.
Its all about "footballing brains" - not all about the manager as some STUPID bellend "Everton" website writers have been writing. ******* ****s only write when they want a moan, usually to blame Moyes for global warming and 9/11.
Moyes has shown me the future. I'm a huge Heitinga admirer now, its funny you don't realise it happening (as he does it quietly in games doens't he?)...
Its all because he thinks about what he's doing when he's in a blue shirt.
Jags and Heitinga all the way for me.
