Football fans are funny really.

"Gareth Barry is boss, he is our most important player, what a pro!"

We win one game without him.

"Barry is rubbish, get rid!"

We moan about players not having any loyalty but how can we expect it when we are so fickle ourselves.

can you quote me saying "hes boss"?

Yes a few experienced players helps our youngest defender the other night was 28 yrs old!
The rest including the keeper all over 30 capt sent off as his legs have gone all been great players but Holgate why is he not used along side Williams to gain experience is a mystery IMO!
Barry should have been off loaded to villa in January IMO never missed him the other night and we won!

Ok Joey no need to be so angry. I don't think Barry should be starting games but his influence as the second highest games in the Premier league means his attitude and work ethic are something to be applauded and good for the young lads.

This is just another clear sign that there isn't money to spend

This is why year after year we never progress and will continue to stutter for years to come

Rather than replace these players with quality and ship out the outcasts we just resign players for as long as they can stand on two feet. This isn't the way to win the league which is apparently what we are aiming for. Ok

I think the contract extension for Barry might be a sweetener, for a coaching job. Who better than Barry to show the youngsters how to conduct themselves, look after themselves to play in the top level as long as he has. Also if we bring in Schneiderlin, Barry will be more effective as we won't be asking him to play every game.

Baines was a no-brainer. Oviedo and Garbutt aren't good enough to lace his boots. Galloway is more of a CB.

Holgate. Future CB.

Happy with those contract extensions.

We only handed out a one year extension to Barry and 2 years to Baines. Don't really see the problem with that. There's a lot of garbage in our squad right now, that needs replacing far more urgently than these two. Giving them a new contract gives us time to fix those problems first imo. I'm sure in two/three years time it will be a completely different situation.

Great post mate. I think someone put it right a few pages ago when they said, if there is going to be a lot of movement of players in and out over the next couple of windows we do need to ensure we keep some older heads to help smooth the process over.

As football fans we generally under value what good experienced pro's do. We see only the 90 minutes they are on the pitch. That's the most important part of their working week, but is only a small percentage of it. Having players who help behind the scenes, set the right tone and get younger and newer players performing the right way is invaluable. In many ways that was the true value of someone like a Phil Neville.
