Ronald Koeman discussion

The players are easily adequate enough to get results. They proved that in the first five league games. Remember all the 'best start in generations' breast beating - all done with these players.

I wouldn't suggest we dont need players in, but it's a bad craftsman that blames their tools.

It's like the players not being able to play a pressing game, even though for 70 minutes against Spurs they did it brilliantly, and did it when they were supposedly only 60% fit.

I was speaking to a respected coach from the Manchester United setup this morning and he talked highly of Koeman's coaching methods.

From all accounts, his training methods and techniques are respected within the footballing fraternity, so he was at a loss for our current lull.

He did however make a slightly remarkable comment along the lines of - 'some of the players fear Koeman which isn't a great thing'.

At a certain point those players must have thought to themselves "why are we putting in so much effort to win the ball back when we're then having to move it the rest of the 2/3rds of the pitch or else instructed to belt it up to Rom?". It must be dispiriting.

If Koeman wants to go for a pressing game he needs to do it in good time. We cant press further up the pitch (the only place it really pays off) because of the personnel we have up there. So in the meantime play to the strengths of this first team squad and construct moves and commit bodies further up the pitch ready to counter the opposition.

Players who have played for him in general fearing him mate, or actual Everton players fearing him now.
