Ronald Koeman discussion

Just got back from the game, at least I don't have a journey back to Liverpool anymore, felt sorry for those who do.

Few things, Van Dijk had Lukaku in his arse pocket, can't believe how easy Lukaku gets bullied off the ball considering how big he is.

Jags is deffo finished, and I haven't seen our away support that quiet for a long time, considering how we went down without any fight you can't blame them though.

Lets not forget what Unsworth said after the Norwich game: "That will be the skill of the manager: can he blend top established players with a new generation of unbelievable talent? It doesn't matter how old you are, if you watch that performance, you know that Kieran, Tom, Jonjoe and Matty are here to stay and basically you build a team around that . . . I think it's a goldmine, not just one or two, we have got an abundance of top quality." Not looking to have much skill in this department is he?
What happened to S'tons academy under Koeman will happen here. It'll be placed in mothballs for however long he's here and he'll have no patience bringing players through, preferring to spend whatever cash he receives off the owner or more likely the cash from sales.

I find that very concerning tbh. It's what we have a great reputation for and it'll be flushed down the toile for the nest few years.

I think that today might be the straw that broke the camels back, we're gonna see a response from him now regarding a player or two, if he doesn't then there's nothing down for him
And the most difficult decision of all is to end the career at Everton the current captain. Anyone can see jags is finished at the top level and the only reason for his continued inclusion is his standing at the club. Tough times cause tough decisions to be made and dispensing with our current captain is one of those decisions that needs to be made.

Yes & at the same time we've got the best crop of young players for 20+ years

unbelievable how managers keep playing the same formation/tactics /players and expect the results to change. If he doesn't play some youth and more creativity in midfield plus someone to play up with Lukaku he is going to get us into a scrap after new year.

  • Sorry if this has already been mentioned - I'm not at all impressed by this quote from Koeman about the Southampton striker who made his debut today, having progressed through their academy: "I wasn't aware of Josh Sims when I was here and he is not my problem - I work for Everton, not Southampton." Why wasn't he aware of him? He was their manager up until the summer.

Basically as the lad had been playing constantly the past two seasons for there under 21's/23's - 50 odd games - and he has been called up for the england under17's and 18's and played a fair bit for them too, then that's an absolutely shocking statement.

The likes of Kenny, Dowell, Walsh etc don't have a prayer under Koeman

@davek

Please see my thread re the youth going forward.
Its my biggest concern; especially as our academy has been a pillar of the club for many a year.

It is quite a weird situation where once again a seemingly talented group of players with a capable manager are incapable of putting a shift in against mediocre opposition. I hate to say this but I can't see it ending well! Really disappointing on every level.

I mentioned this week that Koeman needed help in his team he has around him. Maybe that won't fall on deaf ears anymore or be riduculed

Dave, you were advocating Sammy Lee, the Kopite dwarf, to be part of Koeman's team, you were ALWAYS going to be ridiculed for that shout

Here's a thought mate. Last season we played a better Southamptin team than that one today and utterly pulverised them with some resilient defending and devastating counter attacking. Those players are all still there barring a player sold (Stones) and one he loaned out (Galloway).

If he can't get this lot to play the way he wants and is biding his time until he can purchase players who can carry out his game plan, then he has to be PRAGMATIC. Which is funny really, because when Koeman was first touted as Martinez's replacement pragmatism was seen as his trademark.

I suggest he needs to use the players he has right now to play the way they can play best and wait until another day to get his vision (whatever that may be) in place.

Yes but that day Ross was fantastic and Lukaku was in the mood, today both were woeful.

Its not just the system is it, your relying on players to do the required job - like perform in that system too. I think he is using the best formation available due to our CM and winger options. He could possibly make 1 or 2 changes with Holgate/Funes Mori coming in but even then it may not fix things. Holgate and Mori coming in are not going to make Lukaku/Barkley etc work harder/press more or be more creative.

It comes down to certain players not doing what Koeman wants and that wont change until they are shipped out.

No mate, not quite. I said he failed to take for whatever reasons his key coach in the transition from S'ton to EFC and that he might need to fill that vacancy whether with Lee or anyone else who can give him half a clue how to transition from defence to attack....because it sure doesn't look like big bro Erwin has that qualification.
