Lack of financial backing was not the reason for the deficiencies of the summer window.
in your opinion, mate.
to most observers it looked like we didn't have any transfer funds.

Well it's not really just his opinion is it? Agents and sporting directors had come out mentioning our offers and how good they wherein your opinion, mate.

Sorry to be so cynical, but that's not a bad understanding of the summer transfer activity chronology, IMO.

put your neck on the line: how much do you expect Everton to spend in January...a figure you'll be pissed off with if not reached? Its not cynical, its just ill informed.

Yep. The way to look at it is that if the owners want to be taken seriously rather than coming across as buffoons who know people in low places, they have the perfect opportunity in January and next summer to put everyone on notice that they are serious players. That's exactly how it happened, it's the fact of our summer window. The club have much to prove in the next couple of windows if they want to convince fans we're not financially restrained.

It is generally speaking. It's not about spend really though is it?
Don't get me wrong, we need to spending money - but more than anything we need fresh faces who can bring quality.
If those players cost £7mil or £25mil is irrelevant - as long as they bring the desired quality (Gueye for instance has been our best signing).
It is generally speaking.
So you want minimum three good to go first team contenders in January, regardless of outgoings...and if there are outgoings then four or five in January?I was utterly livid in the summer David, I maintained we needed another 3 players on top of the 1s we signed, at the very min.
Dont really understand what the point in Valencia was, but ok.
I felt a bit better when other clubs chairmen and players agents said we at least tried for more, which means we are simply useless rather than skint.
So we still need 3 players, a number 8, a number 9 and a number 10 and thats at the very min. It doesnt matter how much we spend, its all about getting the players in we need, we sold 1 in the summer and signed 4 first team players, you seem very eager to point at der net spend, in this market, it means naff all.
The squad needs rebuilding, we lost 4 first team players in the Summer and certain areas need improving, yesterday, so I wont be putting a figure on the signings, but I will say if we dont address the lack of creativity and drive in the middle of the park im going to be PISSED.
