Ronald Koeman discussion

Judge him after he gets his own players in.

Steklenburg/Robles
Jagielka
Baines
Mirallas
Barry

All first team players currently not good enough/too old for a high intensity team that presses which Koeman wants. Add in the likes of Lennon, Mccarthy, Cleverly, Niasse, Kone and Valencia I don't get why fans are shocked that we are in 7th as the top 6 are miles ahead in quality.

Baines and Barry have been two of our best players this season.

Any coincidence that our poor run started when Baines got injured...

Both are still miles off their top 6 counterparts in terms of energy which is essential for pressing. Baines isn't anywhere near one of the best LB's around like he was years ago and Barry simply hasn't the pace and whilst he has never required pace, he's still not got the energy that your top 4 midfield have. The likes of Nzonzi and Capoue would be upgrades.

There's much more vital needs in our side than a first-choice left-back, to pick up on that position is strange. We do need a better back-up though we have Galloway to come back also.

Barry is still our only player who can dictate any of the play with any idea of tempo. He just needs to be managed well and yes, in games where we need more pace, he should be on the bench.

N'Zonzi and Capoue are both very good players. However, we haven't got a hope in hell of getting N'Zonzi and given Watford's position I'd say Capoue would be unlikely as well.

Pretty certain we'll be getting a CM in Jan.

Last chance saloon for this Sunday.

I'll have this with me, just in case...

Well, he did sign Valencia and Stek (id include bolasie) who are all duds...

Not really.

Those early results, with Baines in the team, were eked out against a background of unconvincing performances.

What we have witnessed this past seven games is results catching up with those unconvincing performances :(

If you ask me for an interim report with the first third of the season all but completed, we peaked in the first half against Spurs, when a new era did indeed appear to be ushering in, and it has all been a bit meh ever since :pint2:

I'm not saying Baines would have won us the games we have thrown points away in mate, not at all, but we looked a lot more confident with him in the side and fully fit. And same goes for Barry, who is our only player capable of adding any element of control to our play.

And I agree - our first-half vs Spurs, second-half v Sunderland, first-half v Boro have showed we can play how Koeman wants. But the players we currently have can't sustain it. It'll come, have faith ;)

Stek won us seven points in the first three games Zat...
Ah don't start this again!

This is the same thing we were talking about in the Bolasie thread, just because he made saves doesn't mean he won us points. I'd say he won us points against City, because he made a series of very good saves that I wouldn't necessarily expect another keeper to make. At a push I'd say the Spurs game could possibly go down as him winning us points but the other 2 games were just decent saves that I would expect any reasonable keeper to make 9 times out of 10. It's not like there'd just be an open net if he wasn't playing, I'm confident Joel could have made the saves that Stekelenburg did in those games.

First half against Boro was dreadful until they scored and woke us up, Toff.

Then we came to life for about fifteen minutes up until half time.....and promptly hit the snooze button again once the second half started :(
