Ronald Koeman discussion

No we couldn't have signed a superstar though Zat. That was my point.

We could have signed a player from abroad who may or may not have settled in the league.

Koeman and Walsh wanted somebody who fit the mould of a pacey, strong attacker. Someone who would settle quickly and who offers a different dimension to our play than our other wingers, who all rely on nothing but pace (and Kev isn't even that quick anymore), but have no strength or desire to rush the defence.

For all of Bolasie's faults (and there are plenty) he works hard, he closes down and he is always looking to get into good positions. Hence, he's always the one who is involved in our attacks, whereas Lennon, Kev and Del seem happy to hang on the edges.

seems like a bigger lennon to me...

Imagine bernardo silva sitting at left midfield or someone similar....rather that than a bloke who is expected to be a bulldozer but seems more of a dozer.

Bernardo Silva is a No.10 or at a push a right winger.

He didn't fit the mould of the player that Koeman wanted to bring in - he wanted a big, physical player to provide support for Rom.

Pair Bolasie with the likes of a Bernardo Silva and yes, you've got a winning formula.

I still hold out some slim hope Deulofeu could do that job, but he's done nothing thus far to deserve a run of games.

In fact, the best I've seen anybody in an actual typical 'no.10' role for us this season is Kev...

Nah...Silva would be brilliant left midfield for us just as he showed last season at monaco when he drifted inside creating chances and keeping the ball moving.

Wouldnt have him on the right...hed be a pienaar upgrade....

Wouldnt work with bolasie though as he cant finish so any cute balls inside wouldnt work.

I dont think hes effective as a sub...has he ever been?

Barnsley away - assisted three.

FA Cup semi - his cross forced the own-goal.

Off the top of my head, that may be about it.

The thing is, that then shows it is something he should be busting a gut to work on.

'Okay, I'm not a starter, but I need to show my worth when I get the chance'. Not do one or few bright things, though not actually create a thing, then strop.

He did well when he came on vs Sunderland but was rightly not started vs Boro as Boro were looking to sit deep and there was no space in behind. He then started the next game vs Norwich and was really poor.

He plays predominantly centre or right wing for Monaco, cutting inside on his preferred left foot.

But yeh I agree in principle, we need a balance there of a playmaker capable of playing wide and linking the play, with an out-and-out winger on the other side to provide the width.

It is not a lack of ability in the cases of Deulofeu, Mirallas, and Barkley.

For me, those are the three biggest disappointments of late.

Mirallas has had probably a season too long with us and in hindsight we would have done well to consider any offers for him this summer, and/or make him available for transfer. Just doesn't look hungry at all.

Deulofeu and Barkley's biggest problem seems to be themselves. Deulofeu as I see it seems to have issues with application and focus, and he looks lazy at times. The trend is there and I don't see it changing.

Barkley's demons are more in his head and I don't believe he thinks he is good enough. Which would be wrong in my view, very wrong. He is expected to be our talisman but psychologically looks so intimidated and inhibited a lot of the time. But how can Koeman or anyone else "coach" that out of his head?

Aside from Lukaku's goals and Bolasie's work-rate if not always consistent, you look down through the whole squad and we have no game-changers from midfield or the wings. Or we have, but just can't get performances from them often enough.

We should probably be doing better, but only marginally so, and we'll continue to struggle against the Top 6. It's imperative we show up at the start of games though. We can't be drawing at home with Swansea and Crystal Palace, more often than not.

Havent seen him this season tbh...but yeah he can play all the way across the attacking midfield....i personally like him on the left bending in passes...cutting inside and providing assists etc

would have preferred him...like i said 2 years+ ago lol

He's a little midget like.

He's past us now though Zat, ultimately.

Yunes Malli, there's your playmaker ;)

Del?

He sure has, Zat.

He came on and terrorised the RS defence in the 3-3 derby.....did the same in the draw at Arsenal a few weeks later.

And he came on at Wembley and was the catalyst for the fight back as he dragged us back into that semi final.

But I am not making the case for him being used as an impact sub.

I want him given half a dozen games as a starter in his natural, right wing position......and not be expected to spend half the time "tracking back".

Use his attacking prowess to its full potential.

See how it goes.......it can't be any worse than it has been this past two months.

And if that means leaving Bolasie sat on the bench then be it so.....after all, Del will produce the odd moment of magic even in a quiet game same as Bolasie is given so much credit for doing :)
