Ronald Koeman discussion

Long passes are different than long balls, if we are hoofing it up to Lukaku then God help us, im personally not seeing us play hoofball.

Well our "long passes" are up to Bolasie or Lukaku (and why Bolasie sees more of the ball against our other less physical wingers)

Which is where the problem begins as neither can hold up the ball, or win headers and we turn over possession.

Then its where Koeman gets upset as we're not successfully winning the ball back after said players can't hold the ball

But the back 4 will keep on doing it.

But we dont concede possession, we spent the entire 2nd half attacking, we made over 30 crosses into the box and had 11 corners, the other week we had over 30 shots, the tactics arent the issue, the application of the tactics are the issue.

And the large part of the application of tactics is the players. No doubt we didn't deserve more than what we got vs the likes of City and Chelsea, their players are a world apart from ours in quality and their mentality is far more ambitious than that of our players.

But there is no doubting we are a cut above the rest of the teams in the league from the Europe places downwards. We've been very poor of late by our standards, yet we have dominated in games I'd say the result didn't reflect the dominance in the game - Burnley, Palace and Swansea. Make no mistake, we were better than all three. We did all we should to win the game.

Again I make the point, whilst I'm not letting Koeman off the hook, the majority of the players are letting him down. They're still not doing what Koeman is demanding. He said about 10 games ago we needed to start games better. I am confident Koeman has been working on this else he wouldn't have said it. And still the players don't sort this problem out. I fail to see what more Koeman can do in situations like this except make changes to the eleven, but it's not like he has game winning options at his disposal.

Whats that saying, you can lead a horse to water but cant make it drink?

Yep, that.

Great attacking team, not so great defensively. Stevie Wonder can see it doesn't need Koeman's root and branch 'solution'.

Saints scored as many as us last season mate, without a striker half as good as Lukaku in the team. Even west Ham scored a fair few more without a recognized striker

So how would we describe Koeman's philosophy of play so far? What is the pattern of play he wants us to develop? He definitely wants us to pres more when we do not have it and that wish is being shown in little bursts but not enough for anyone's liking yet. He uses 3at the back occasionally. More long angled passes from defenders to wide man of the three behind striker? More in the air to Lukaku? Mainly using 4231 which is what most teams play I think? Work harder to win second ball even if Lukaku does not win header. Genuine question. It all just seems a bit haphazard on the pitch in this bad run we are in.
I have absolutely no idea what Koeman's philosophy is or way of playing.

There is no discernable pattern to our play.

There is vitually no creativity and Lukaku aside no goal threat.

It's an understandable response. My thought at suggesting it is that this shift from Martinez to Koeman is too abrupt...too much of a shock to the system. We required something different.

I kind of agree.

The supposed direction of the club on and off the pitch appears to be changing but there isn't anyone (looking in from
The outside) reminding people about certain things.

Change is good but sometimes we need to remember what we're good at. Youth being prime example.

This sums it up perfectly.....boss slotter's required asap.
Crow all they want about possession etc...if you aint scoring goals you aint winning games.
I would wager a more mobile forward (and look a bit more arsed) than Lukaku would bag a shedful.
