Ronald Koeman discussion

Which is fine.

But there doesnt seem to be an idea about what to do when we have the ball.

We don't build from the back. We bypass the midfield. Hoof to our wide players or striker.

We're not playing to any players particular strength.

If "high pressing" was a big factor, why didnt he buy or attempt to buy those types of players? Why doesnt he play Cleverly and McCarthy more often? Their work rate excels any footballing ability they have.

In fact, if this were the case, Clev should be starting over Barkley.

That's what is missing. That quality.

The players who have the quality to make a real impact (Rom, Ross, Kev) don't do it enough - as in win the ball back and then make a chance, so often it is just Bolasie - who does his best to create but is inconsistent.

It's about getting in players with that extra quality who have the whole package.

And he did attempt to buy those players - Sissoko is a prime example.

And mate, Cleverley has played loads of games. He isn't good enough... And actually while he has 'legs' he doesn't press. Neither does McCarthy really - as today showed - but he only hasn't been played more because he's been injured for the best part of three months...

He didn't carry on that style of play as all the ones that made S'ton tick under Poch left...

What he did do was inherit a very well-run/put-together squad and brought in players who complimented that and how he wanted to play.

He then improved upon Pochetino's league placing two years running... While still having to deal with his best players leaving.

Did you read the BBC article on Les Reed? That was interesting. I suspect we're years behind that kind of set up.

So, hes getting players to do things they're not accustomed to doing.

Doesnt mean they don't have quality, it means they don't fit the system.

But I have to question the system that renders a 20 goal a season striker "not good enough"

My short summary would be something like this....

Koeman needs time and should be judged this time next season (barring an utterly dreadful season).

Koeman has a squad who are aging, and containing lots of overhyped players.

But these players are good enough to do better than our current form suggests and therefore he can do better.

Basically the players and Koeman need to up their game, and Koeman needs to be ruthless with his selections and in deciding who is shipped out.

We have a very average squad. the style Koeman wants to implement requires mental and physical strength. our current crop of players are weak.

I agree totally.

And despite my backing for Koeman, maybe, as someone mentioned earlier, he should look at trying to get us to play with the players we have now, rather than ones we don't have.

Or something.

I'm still prepared to give him time & allow him to build the squad he needs but I did note an article that stated how he laid into the players at half time to salvage a draw. In my mind, I'm reading this far too often. If he's doing that in a lot of games then there's something wrong with the match day preparation, IMHO.

Possibly. I feel that there comes a time to just cut the chord with a playing group. They clearly are mentally fragile and not up to it in talent to take this football club forward. Two or three 'quality" additions into the starting 11 minimum over the next two Summers required for the rebuild to be conformed, as Ronald keeps saying.

Been the case for I don't know how long sadly.

Maybe Koeman will actually do something about it.

True true. Gonna take time though.
Yes I feel the full 3 year contract give to Ronald Koeman, ie 3 full Summer transfer periods and whatever else they do in Januarys.
We have no choice have we mate? We are going nowhere. 11th again this season on the cards and that seems to be the lot for this group of dross.

Time for Moshiri to deliver the funding on field. No more excuses.

Won't be easy though.

We need to ship out a lot. Who exactly will want them?

Then there's the issue of getting quality in. I believe we did try in the summer, for big big money, but good players just don't want to come here. Yet.
