Ronald Koeman discussion

Obviously Koeman was very wrong with his comments and an apology should be issued.
He obviously knows the deal or agreement in place is the same as John Stones "one more season" .So Koeman maybe has come to terms with this and will prepare for him leaving, could be a masterstroke in getting the very very best out of Lukaku for the next 6/7 months (plus a real Top End transfer fee)
But yes shouldnt have let it out in the press this way tho.

The manager of Everton who simply acknowledged the fact that if Rom meets his potential he won't be playing for us for the next 10 years...

What your saying is completely valid but I for one will be pretty miffed if we haven't at least started knocking on the door of the top 4 within the next 5 years and hopefully have a trophy in the cabinet be it the EFL cup or whatever. We supposedly get in a new investor to help back the manager to take us into the elite, we are (i believe) one of the world's top 20 richest clubs by income. Few managers are being paid as much as he is.

If he or Rom want to move on to clubs that are bigger that's fine but do that by being the best they can here, that means Rom getting 25+ goals for a few seasons on the trot and Koeman working out a way so we don't get beaten by Bournemouth and bummed by Chelsea. Not sit around kicking stones waiting to be poached if club is willing to gamble on one of them.

So what's wrong with telling Rom to keep his head down and score lots of goals then a utd/barca/BM/RM may come in for him and in the meantime strengthen the team bit by bit so hopefully progress is there for all to see and players can then decide whether to stay or push through a move.

If the manager doesn't believe this then unfortunately this will start unravelling pretty quickly.

I'd be annoyed as well if that were the case (as in not getting close to being an established top-four challenger within 5 years), but I also don't expect Rom to be here for that duration...

I honestly don't see that he's said he wants to move. He has just acknowledged that it will be hard to keep hold of Rom (which we all knew) and that Rom has the potential to be one of the world's best (which we all say)...

He hasn't said he has to leave Everton soon, or that he even should. But he has admitted that the lad will eventually move on if he is to fulfil his potential, just as Bale, Ronaldo, Suarez and countless others have done.

And he has had that tact. But similarly, what's wrong with saying to Rom - 'you can be one of the world's best, you do have that potential'?

@Papa Shango They win stuff because they spend double what we do on wages and transfers. City win more because they spend double what Liverpool do.

Nah I'm not having that.

They do indeed spend a lot of money, they generally waste a lot of it too.

I look at that lot doing well, constantly in a position to win something and then I look at their squad and it amazes me as they aint that good on paper. But they always find a way to mount comebacks etc and go on good runs and its all to do with belief. "We are de best in de werld" etc.

Its incredibly annoying but it works for them. There is no belief at Everton and hasnt been for a very long time so for the manager to basically confirm that is absolutely bizarre.

As has been mentioned many times what he says is true and I am on the fence about it personally but judging by the fume of many on here and by generally talking to Everton fans about it I think its fair to say that his comments have rankled some of our fans and has created some doubt about his suitability for the role he has got.

This may be kneejerking and OTT, to be honest it probably is, but that doesnt matter is the fact is that it HAS caused an issue with some people. The question I have is that for such an experienced person why even put yourself in that position?

Some of the comments on Southampton forums are telling;

Quite glad we got rid of him, he was always undermining the playing staff and board and he was the cause of disharmony within the club, and he's already started doing it at Everton.

£6m a year hahahahahahahahaha, look what that gets you. The fella has no loyalty to anyone and can't keep his gob shut.

Reap what you sow. I think many of us saw this kind of thing coming at Everton, it's earlier than I probably expected but it's begun and they'll see exactly why he wasn't exactly a fan favourite here.

If you're beginning a new era at your club I have no idea why you'd select Koeman to lead you into that new era, he is the definition of short term-ism and he'll be off as soon as a bigger pay day comes up. Plenty of us wanted him to stay but now he's gone you can see just how poisonous he was.
