Sir Landon Of Donovan

OK-- so here is my win - win - win scenario:

Everton and Galaxy agree that LD will:

A/Extend the loan through the end of the season

B/Play in the World Cup

C/Return to the Galaxy for their season through the summer and fall--a valedictory tour for the MLS

D/Return to Everton at the end of the year for good

There--that's the scenario. You heard it here first.

Now you guys sort out the money!

If we do end up signing him this will be the most likely scenario

He would stay if we could afford him. Why would you want to go back to play in such a poor league, when you have shown you are capable in one of the best.

Because:

1. He's from LA
2. It's warm over there
3. He's the best player in that league
4. He just signed an extension to his contract
5. It's warm over there and it's cold over here

I see what you mean, but I guess I disagree there too.

I believe LA will let him go (or rather the MLS will let him go) if the figure is high enough, and if they are offered the face-saving measure of getting LD back for the second half of the season.

As for LD himself, now that he is divorced, he is not as bound to LA. And I think we have been seeing quite strong signals from him that he is enjoying himself in a blue jersey. I think he likes this level of competition, and he likes this group of guys.

So it's back to the money--if they spend it, he will come....

We may see him on loan again next season.

Anyone reckon this 10 week loan will become an annual thing?

I'll miss him though. Good player. He suits the number 9 shirt.

Having followed Landon for years now, I can tell you: Landon is in love with Everton.

He has recently divorced his wife....and she was THE main reason why he came back to MLS in 2005 (from Leverkusen.) He met her as a 20-year-old right after the 2002 World Cup and they'd been together ever since. She was his priority.

Now he is fancy free.

What Landon has wanted for at least the past 2 years is a team to BUY him. No one wanted to take a chance on him because of his prior track record in europe, so he had to go on loans. That was his only way. The main reason he signed his new contract is because that was the only way the Galaxy would allow him to go on loan again, so he did it. (He doesn't have the pull/clout/what have you that David Beckham does)

He wants a team that is the right situation (which that's what everyone wants) and is willing to invest in him, that wants him bad enough that they will buy him. If Everton could scrape up the money, he's a Toffee.

**Hi - first post. Having looked at various Everton message boards, I have fallen in love with the Grand Old Team. And I abhor pineapple on my pizza. :)

Kenwright would be silly not to pony the cash - everyone would love him for it. No brainer from PR perspective.

Still don't give Donovan staying more than a 3 in 10 chance - he might extend his loan but he's deffo back to the States.

Welcome to GOT - glad you've found us. Stick around a bit - good for your soul.

Oh, and I forgot to add: I'm in love with Everton, too. They're just the right kind of team. :)

Thanks for the welcome.

Landon's Facebook status' are epic. He's clearly having a lot of fun over here so fingers crossed.
The 779 comments he has this week all seem to want him to stay aswell!(y)

If Landon Donovan moved to Everton on a perm deal, then Everton would definitely have quite a following in the US that rivals teams like Man U, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. I definitely think they could make their money back, especially if Donovan is a hit.

He's the best US player. Better than Dempsey, better than Beasley, better than Bradley. He's definitely maturing and enjoying himself. He never had a fair shot at Bayern Munich because he was the favorite of Klinsmann who had a falling out with upper managerment there and he was too immature for Bayer Leverkusen.

I think he needs to step up just a bit though and take over when the team needs him. Watching the Liverpool game was painful. He had a few good runs, but he needed to demand the ball, push the pace, and make something happen. He is capable of it, he just seemed to lack a little confidence in that game.

Donovan was more than a match for Ashley Cole. Do we really need further evidence that he's capable of making a difference for whatever EPL team he happens to play for? I'm sure Moyes will work to keep him (regardless of his throw-away statements to the media). All that stands in the way is his new contract (which surely can be overcome for a price).

As for those who suggest MLS is the bottom of the sport's barrel, I think they're not being reasonable. Yes, it's true that MLS does not compare well with the top teams in EPL, Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga. But I think MLS matches up well against much of Europe. For example, please don't tell me that the game being played in Scotland is a great deal better.
