Ross Barkley

Martinez encouraged the attacking game because he was played as a number 10. If Koeman wants more out of him then that's his job to coach it. Coaching, though, doesn't include running to the media at every available opportunity to tell them Barkley needs to pull his finger out.

I'd really like to see Koeman earn his (substantial amount of) corn by actually changing Barkley for the better instead of opening his grid and demanding he acquires it by osmosis.

Hang on, the things I mentioned that Barkley doesn't do - at all - are basics. Barkley's had several coaches. And still he doesn't do them. Koeman's got a job to do, but if the lad just won't do them...

Zero chances created against vastly inferior competition by our attacking midfielder. Useless outside of set pieces. Now permanently replaced by someone younger on the national team.

Someone will be purchased to take over for him in January and he'll looking to rebuild his career someplace like Stoke by 2018.

The teams we are competing with for Europe feature Ozil; De Bruyne/Silva; Coutinho; Alli/Eriksen; Rooney (himself a disappointment)/Mata/Mkhitaryan. There's your knife to a gunfight.
