Ross Barkley

I think ross has every attribute to be one of the best premiereship players ,but His mental strenghth (insecurities) are nowhere near that level. It still worries me that a player that had some bad injuries early in his career still seems to be terrified every time he tackles. The conversation with jags in the tunnel at wembley speak volumes for where his mind is at, he honestly believed the abuse aimed at Martinez was for him. Maybe some sessions with a sports phsycologist would do wonders for the lad.

Or a kick up the arse.

Dave I have never said I want him to leave on the conrary I have continually extorted him to show us what he is capable and do it consistently. If as you say RK is not playing him in his best position then surely RB needs to show RK where it is.
I didn't say you did want him to leave - many others do though.

As for Barkley telling Koeman where he should play: I think it's more telling him how he should play. He's not lazy, he's not short of covering ground - he's just ill-suited to the defensive side of the game yet just happens to be one of the best attacking talents in the country. His manager does't need to be told that, in fact, he can see it if he ever watched Barkley in the two years he's managed in the PL. Or maybe he does see it and just doesn't fancy having him around because he cant fit him into the way he wants to play? We'll find out between now and next September, i suspect.

Moyes didnt even want to play him, Martinez played him solely in the hole, Koeman wont ever play him in midfield, you know why? Cos he cant tackle, he cant track a man, he cant do anything a midfielder should be able to do, hes not and never will be a midfielder, he doesnt have the tools.

He's a million miles from Lampard. Lampard had huge mental toughness, and was super fit and highly disciplined. Ross is currently the polar opposite of that description
IIRC Lampard's stats when he was Barkley's age weren't as good. You're comparing Lampard the finished article with Barkley the work in progress. You'll no doubt say "but we've been saying that for ages and he hasn't progressed". Well he's that bad he has 22 caps for his country with many more to come, and everyone has different development rates.

The reason this is a heated topic and generates interest is precisely because we've all seen what this lad can do when he's in form. He's unplayable on his day. He now has to make those days more frequent than they have been...or find a club where he'll be catered to and scoop up a bundle of cups.

Always thought one of Barkley's best games was in the middle of the park against QPR, think the reason why he was so good though was he had Besic next to him.

How often did you see Toure or Lampard doing that? I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that he is too big a talent for Everton. Not that he thinks that way, he's a modest kid it seems. But fans of this club in increasing numbers want a workhorse who can ring out a bucket full of sweat from their shirt at the end of 90 minutes "coz dats what we wanna see lad, we can fergiv any'in lad as long as yer pull yer tripes out lad".

People always mention that QPR game, he was amazing that day, but it was against a Championship side that got dicked by everybody, I think Phil Neville would have shone that day.
How was it against a Championship side when it was a PL game?

Lampard played 187 times for West Ham scoring 39 goals 4.79
Barkley has played 166 times for Everton scoring 27 goals 6.14

Lampard played in Midfield, Barkley plays as a striker, stop comparing them or at least stop talking utter bubbles.

The most common comments, re Ross, from Ronnie Goodlass, when I listen to the away games on Murkeyside, are
'wrong decision making', 'always want's an extra touch, and ' forever trying to gild the lily'

Can't see Barkley holding his own in that Spurs side that beat City comfortably today...all action non stop pressing which City couldn't cope with..every Spurs player was putting his foot in and winning tackles. No dwelling on the ball.

This is precisely what Koeman wants, and it's no surprise that both Spurs and Liverpool (2nd and 3rd) play this way but have had 2 seasons to get it right.

This is where the enigma that is Barkley falls down in that it's an area where he's not proficient and may not be likely to get better either!

He may improve on this, but then needs Lukaku to do the same, which again isn't likely to happen anytime soon, and this then begs the question can Koeman play both?

It doesn't help when those around him like Cleverley stroll around leaving the old man that is Barry making him look pedestrian.

It's either all press or play a different way.
