Ross Barkley

Spot on Count, we all place enormous expectations on Ross because of his moments of brilliance and I think you covered it perfectly with you last sentence,he is now at the stage of sink or swim as to whether he is going to make that step up towards being elite and the manager therefore has what amounts too a big decision to make, does he stick with and support Ross in the hope that he finds consistency or does he drop him and risk further harming a player who appears to be mentally fragile to criticism.

Don't get me wrong I love Ross to bits and have done since he first appeared on the scene, I love his cavalier approach and genuinely think when he is on top of his game he is the closest thing in English football to Gazza in his prime,I sometimes wonder though whether being a blue has in his case hindered him on the pitch, I badly want him to succeed but I do fear he may ultimately end up an also ran.....I do so hope I'm proved to be wrong.
A good post mate.

If he does end up an also ran, he'll be a very high end one. Probably with 50 caps and 500 prem appearances. That's an amazing career really.

I guess when you say succeed, you mean 100+ caps and major honors? Obviously what we all want him to go on and achieve at Everton.

I do have to disagree slightly with your sink or swim point. I don't think he suddenly has to be this elite world beater. I'm not sure that's how it works. All he has to do is keep making little improvements. Maybe that one extra pass comes off a game. Or he makes a better decision. His tackle rate and work rate improve etc. Maybe this season he gets 10 goals and 10 assists (rather than 8 and 8 last year).

I think most people would be happy with this. He's had a few poor games this year, but its early doors with a new manager. He's a big part of Koeman's plans this year, so let's give him to the end of the season and assess him then. If improvements haven't been made then you can really ask some big questions or doubt whether he's going to really push on.

I agree with a lot of your points & I also have an issue with alot of people over dissecting his every move.

A lot of the drivel spouted wouldn't be brought up had he buried his header v west brom & the almost identical chance v Bournemouth yet he wouldn't have played any better or worse.

Granted the end product argument then correctly rears its head but the point remains in real terms he wouldn't have played any better or worse.

Facts are the flaws in his game that can easily be sorted via coaching & hard work I.e positioning, pressing, tackling etc Koeman will sort or drop him as I can't see him accepting passengers.

The remaining elements of his game we need to all back him & hope he regains his confidence to beat players & take risks.

Ross has more goals, assist and caps at 22 than all of them, in less games than Lampard.

More productive.

If you think Ross Barkley is as good or better than Lampard, Gerrard or Scholes then I fear for you. All 3 were key players dragging their clubs to trophies. International caps for the worst England squad for generations means nothing.

As was pointed out on MNF the other week, at the time of those stats, Gerrard, lampard and Scholes all stepped another level and became very Important players and started to really stand out. They had a high level of consistency and also learned how to dictate and control games, this is where Ross needs to step up also, but at the moment he is stepping down.

We can't make excuses anymore, this is where he has to step up.

Seriously stop talking rubbish Gerard & lampard have never controlled games

Doesn't mean he could controlled games though does it. He impacted on the result your seriously proving you know very little about football if you think Gerard controlled games

Are you one of these new football hipsters that thinks "controlling" games means standing in the centre circle pinging balls out the wings all day? When has Barkley ever controlled a game by the way?

Really Scholes and Lampard dragging their clubs to trophies

Especially Scholes....

No but scholes controlled games Gerard & lampard didn't alonso mascherano makele ballack essien that was there job not lampard.

People are expecting the lad to be able to do everything I'm simply pointing this out.

Regards controlling a game plenty of examples Stoke at home & away last year Newcastle at home last year the 3-3 Derby, arsenal away 2 years ago.

I think you'll find Scholes had won the PL about 3 times as a first teamer when he was 22 and Gerrard had won the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup, scoring or assisting in all the finals.

Well no, he wasn't. Scholes played just over half the games in the period, and was not even anywhere near close to the player he developed into.

But lets destroy Ross for not being complete at 22.

Gibson also won more than what Ross has....
