Ross Barkley

He slows down our attacks, he's not positive enough, there was one play yesterday he was on the edge of their box and took the easy way out and passed it back, two passes later it was back to Stek, that's the Martinez ways still in him and still in the team.

Gerry came on and started getting the ball and running at them, it changed the game, ok a few stuff Gerry tried did not come off, but he increased the speed at which we were breakimg on them x3 from the first half, his run out of our half was the first phase of the first goal we scored.

I just wish Barkley did more of that, because he's fantastic running with the ball and really puts teams in trouble when he does so, he needs to cut out the back passes as and easy option in the final third too.
I think you hit the nail on the head. I think it's going to take some very good man management to extract Martinez and Roy's influence in his style of play.

The one thing we can't do is play him if he's not performing.

I think Barkley is poor against the teams that play negative football. He excels on teams that challenge him and allow him to play his game. He just needs to learn that sometimes as a creative player you just need to distribute quickly rather than create everything on your own. You can't always be the focal point of the game if the other team aren't giving you that option; let the wingers do their work. That is where we thrived. Nothing was happening in the middle of the pitch because they didn't give us any space.

I think we're going to find out what he's made of this season. Jettisoned from the England squad and subbed off after a poor 1st half last night. People saying he's a confidence player - we'll see. I hope coming back from a double leg-break shows the strength of character and he'll come back strong.

This, all day long. He's been awful so far this season Ross, make no mistake about it. Hence why he was hauled off at half time and hence why the manager isn't prepared to blow smoke up his arse. He needs a massive reality check. Perhaps when he's on the bench at the weekend he'll realise he isn't actually all that, and will be prepared to knuckle down and fight for his place.

LOL

You are clueless.

I reckon Koeman will arrive at the conclusion that the team can only carry one of Barkley or Lukaku off the ball.

Judging by the pursuit of Sissoko and alleged interest in Witsel, I think the next big signing will be someone in that mould, and it's difficult to see where Barkley fits in at that point.

100% this
We have geri, mirallas, lennon, bolasie, barkley all to play in them attacking positions around lukaku. The players will change game by game depending on the opposition and player performance.
Next week geri may not get any space and not have his crossing right, but the thing is we have options to change it up instead of just hoping they will play there way out of it cos our only other option is mcgeady

McPieface has gone to Preston on loan mate.

My Nan would be a better option to bring on

I'm a huge fan of his cause he's got the sort of potential that's very hard to find out there however I'm a firm believer that he'll only reach it if he's played in midfield. Now that's another conundrum altogether cause we have Gueye who's already playing at a very high level. I wouldn't mind us selling him at this point cause potential might never be fulfilled while players like Gueye have already fulfilled theirs.

He won't be sold and he will do great things for us.

He's already one of our most important players.

He's 22. People forget his age because for 3 years he's been a starter. Maybe he's not where some had envisioned, but his stats are right up there with Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard at the same age.

He's not even performed badly this season. He's started very well - just was poor last night.

He's at his best in a 4-3-3, given a free role

He doesn't get that choice...
Maybe when he owns the club and hires a manager to run the team, he might be able to get this manager to pick a 4:3:3 formation which 'might' suit him.

Until then, he does what he's told to do to the best of his ability...and if the Boss doesn't think he's doing it good enough then he doesn't get to start.

And if he keeps on not doing enough for the manager -he'll get sold on.

Out in the real world it's called hitting (and hopefully exceeding) your KPI's

His Performance Indicator is the Manager keeps playing him for more than half a game.

Just imagine Barry's footballing brain built into Ross Barkley's power and talent.

Right now Ross is thinking about things too much. When he come onto the scene everything 'flowed', is was all about instinct and letting raw talent do the talking. In my opinion this is his last season to really step up, I say that taking his age into consideration and that he is still young with time. Problem is that this premier league is very cut throat, I would even consider dropping him for the boro game and playing the Bolasie, Mirallas and Delboy trio behind Romelu.

Huddleston at Spurs comes to mind.

As a fan base, we'd also do well to be more supportive and less demanding of the lad.

Too many seem to be too keen to write the lad off or highlight his floors.

It's a disease in English football. Look for fault, rather than the good.

Whenever someone scores "Who made a mistake? Lets over analyse this and say if this player stood there it wouldn't have happened" rather than acknowledge the quality of the goal. The same is true with English talent, built them up as quick as you can and knock them down in the same manner.

There's enough out there taking shots at Everton and Ross Barkley - our own fan base piling on doesn't help.

There's a potentially big talent in there...
