Still absolutely no evidence that this Mail/S*n story is true.

The club have said nothing and no reputable source has.

File under 'nonsense that serves a bigger purpose'....unless, of course, the Mail and S*n are our go to sources for the truth now?

To be fair Dave and in my opinion, the club would gain nothing whatsoever from making any kind of announcement about the arrangements with Martinez - absolutely no mileage in washing dirty linen in public.

He's gone, so let's confine that episode to history and move forward eh ?

Suits me.

Nevertheless, if there's to be a hanging party on any individual it''d be a good idea if there were actual proof of the deed they'd done....and there is none. As said, if Martinez has taken a £10M payout it's grounds to condemn him on and I will if there's any proof. I wouldn't hold your breath on that though, this IS the Mail and Scum we're talking about here. Not exactly crusaders for truth.

Why would you condemn someone for taking a payout that was written into their contract?

To be fair, and certainly from a shareholder's perspective it's a collective failure of the board, the executive and legal teams to negotiate, draft and sign off a contract which in the face of it appears not to penalise the manager's early termination of contract through poor performance.

If it was entirely BK's responsibility then there's an even great corporate governance issue at stake.
Oh, no doubt. But as the sign on President Harry Truman's desk aphoristically professed : "the buck stops here".
The questionable (at best!) contract with Martinez was a Bill Kenwright directive to his commercially under-equipped executive minions.
...and don't get me started on fiduciary duty.

Corporate governance?...this century, none has existed at EFC until about 6 months ago.

Really? Like, really? Thats a bit dramatic!! You rate Mike Walker and Walter Smith above him? Howard Kendall Mk III was pretty dire as well.

And just going on the win % of Everton managers (over 20 games managed), Martinez isn't even close to the worst.

Walker - 17.1%
Kendall 3 - 26.2%
Smith - 32.4%
Buchan - 32.8%
Britton - 36.9%
Bingham - 37.2%
Kelly - 38%
Kendall 2 - 38.9%
Royle - 39%
Lee - 39.3%
McIntosh - 39.8%
Barclay - 40.9%
Moyes - 42.1%
Harvey - 42.4%
MARTINEZ - 42.9%

In fact, looking at the stats, overall Martinez is one of our most winning managers:

Kendall 1 - 54.1%
Molyneux - 50.3%
Cuff - 47.7%
Catterick - 46.5%
Martinez - 42.9%
For the record, I wanted him gone. I was very very happy when he went. But you still need to remove your bias and respect the fact that he wasn't even close to being our worst manager ever.

Yes, really!

Compare the squads that the respective managers were dealing with at the time. I never agreed with the 'best squad in 30 years' hyperbole, but it was streets ahead of what Walker and Kendal we're dealing with in the 90s. Martinez also overseen our worst home record in our entire history, and there were periods during his last two seasons where we were performing worse than the corresponding periods in 93/94 etc. Add in the fact that his sides were absolutely atrocious at defending, the fact that he was too lazy to practice set pieces during training, and the fact that he spoke an inordinate amount of guff on a daily basis, then you have Everton's worst ever manager.

I thought Kendal did a decent job in keeping us up given the state of the club in 97/98.

Legally. Binding. Contract.

Stop pissing and whining.

To be honest, with the way the board dragged out his departure, putting him through misery and abuse, I am not surprised he took them for every penny he could get.
