Tbf using Manchester United as a good example to follow is a bit iffy, it was their mishandling of Van Gaal's sacking that made them have to pay his full remaining contract up (4.5 million) when he has voluntarily walked away with nothing before when things handled better.Contrast Martinez' ability to have almost the full value of his remaining contract paid out by Everton with that of Manchester United paying Moyes the equivalent of 1 year of his remaining 5.
As shareholders we should demand a full explanation. Of course that will never be given.
Yes, totally agree. The fact of the matter remains though is he was clearly legally owed the money or he wouldn't have won the settlement.
Like it or not, Martinez was owed the money, and he fought for it just as anyone would. It's not morally bankrupt at all.
You would have done the exact same thing if it was stated in your contract. Blame Bill...don't blame Roberto for going after what was legally his.
But not legally.
I disagree that it's daft. Or that he was not morally entitled to the pay off. He had an agreement with the club that if either side terminated the agreement early, the other side would be compensated. Is that a stupid thing for the club to have done? Hell yes. But they did it. He is completely within his rights to hold them to the legally binding agreement they made two years ago.
And we are the only club involved in this direction. If a club came and poached him, we would have held out for the full amount guaranteed in that contract, no matter how badly he wanted to go. Just like he's held out for the full value of his contract, and we wanted him to go badly enough to let it happen.
Playing the 'moral' card just ends up benefiting organizations over individuals, since organizations are not expected to suffer from morals.

It was well worth it to get rid of him. He'd have cost us much more than that if he had stayed. He was easily the worst manager in our history.
Yes, totally agree.
However, I think Bobby will find it very, very hard in future to negotiate such a favourable contract. Clubs will think long & hard about hiring him and they'll probably insist on performance targets being included in any deals. He's won this battle, but his career may have lost the war.
Kenwright should be made to pay it out of his share money he got off moshiri
so we're basically subsidising the Belgian FA, he's been able to take a job that pays £800k knowing that 10 mill was in the offing, nice.he's currently being paid twice over for doing the Belgium job.
All irrelevant to BK and the board though.
Time will tellLost the "war"?
He has just pocketed ten million quid and won't need to touch a penny for it in the foreseeable future as he is pulling down around one million per year managing Belgium.
Roberto Martinez's "war" has already been won
Really? Like, really? Thats a bit dramatic!! You rate Mike Walker and Walter Smith above him? Howard Kendall Mk III was pretty dire as well.
And just going on the win % of Everton managers (over 20 games managed), Martinez isn't even close to the worst.
Walker - 17.1%
Kendall 3 - 26.2%
Smith - 32.4%
Buchan - 32.8%
Britton - 36.9%
Bingham - 37.2%
Kelly - 38%
Kendall 2 - 38.9%
Royle - 39%
Lee - 39.3%
McIntosh - 39.8%
Barclay - 40.9%
Moyes - 42.1%
Harvey - 42.4%
MARTINEZ - 42.9%
In fact, looking at the stats, overall Martinez is one of our most winning managers:
Kendall 1 - 54.1%For the record, I wanted him gone. I was very very happy when he went. But you still need to remove your bias and respect the fact that he wasn't even close to being our worst manager ever.
Molyneux - 50.3%
Cuff - 47.7%
Catterick - 46.5%
Martinez - 42.9%

Not irrelevant at all... Just pointing out that bobby wasn't one of our better managers... Didn't exceed expectations and isn't one of the best managers we had in the Orem era
