I find it quite paradoxical that people say people say they're not interested in England although when Ross doesn't get chosen they are outraged.

Should he be selected though? Well he hasn't had a poor start to the season, but yes maybe he does need to up his game and be consistent.

I can understand why he will be disappointed yet hopefully this spurs him on to improve his game even more, which will only be to our advantage.

Also, he'll have an extra week with Koeman to get himself ready for the return from the international break so let's look at the positives.

If deli Ali is picked which given his form at the end of last, the euro's and the start of this then yeah Ross has a valid argument to have been mate

We're not talking about the rest of our team - were talking about Ross.
The best central midfielders dictate the tempo of games - when does he do this? Very rarely if ever.

We're not tallking about other players were talking about Ross who has the ability to do so but doesn't even get close. He doesn't even dominate his own man half the time - take off your blue tinted glasses and open your eyes unless he improves dramatically he'll never fulfill his potential.

I don't see how he doesn't dictate the tempo of our game.
Every attacking move of ours moves through him. We build through midfield using him as a pivot.
He's an attacking midfielder not a central midfielder as well...
As for he doesn't dominate his man, that would be why teams place two men on him to mark him then?
He's still got some work ons but he's an influential player for us and a threat that every team in the league has to take very seriously.
He doesn't go missing for 90 minutes like he used to and in a game like vs. Stoke where he wasn't at his best, he was still influential and made key passes creating chances.
He's not Messi mate.

Well I didn't really expect him to be sat in the dark in his room crying his eyes out for 2 weeks anyway to be fair.

He can't do anything right in the eyes of some people.
The same people that criticize him for being a crab and not taking risks with the ball are the same ones that criticize him when he plays an incisive ball in the box that doesn't come off.
The same people that are shouting at him to turn and run at defenders lose their [Poor language removed] when he dribbles and takes on one man too many.
Wind your heads in lads.
You can't bag him for not taking risks and then turn around and bag him for when he takes risks too.
He can't and doesn't have to score a screamer for it to be a good game from him, if you're judging performances by whether or not he scored a screamer you're watching the wrong sport.

Said this earlier but I believe we assess our players performances against our own expectations of them. Like almost everybody else, I thought Gueye and Holgate were our stand out players against Stoke. But the majority of the press (and indeed Stoke supporters whose forum I gatecrashed Saturday night) thought Ross was MOM.

Which begs the question, do we ask/expect too much of him?. I truly believe that, if he played to the level some people expect week in week out, then we'd be sitting on the worlds best player!!

I've watched Man U a couple of times this season and Mata has started both games. Now there's a lot of people on here who have been crying out for us to buy him, or bemoaning the fact that we've let him slip through our fingertips. Mata hasn't by any means played badly in the two games, but he hasn't influenced either match as much as Ross has in every game he's played this season.

Apart from, spit!!!, Sterling, I can't think of anyone who has been consistently dominating games from midfield so far this season, English or otherwise. Like you Jags, I'm waiting for some examples.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have been selected, especially when you consider who've been selected, although I can understand why he hasn't.

There's justifiable arguments for his inclusion; my point is that there's also some justifiable reasons to explain his exclusion or least to a degree.

Either way, I'd say it is to our benefit that he hasn't been included as it'll hopefully spur him on in the long term and give him time with Koeman.
