Desperately want to see Gibson, Cleverley, Niasse and McGeady moved on. Thing is, who in their right mind would take them? I fear we'll be lumped with at least three of them.

If we could move those four, perhaps even get some decent money for McCarthy, and then invest in three or maximum four real good players, it'd be the sort of stuff dreams are made of. Just can't see it.

Think we'll shift one of the above-mentioned four, and get in two new players, neither of which are world beaters and likely to vastly improve our first XI.

Prove me wrong Everton.
I think you will be delighted to hear Gibson signed a new contract this summer.

The problem is not the relative age of the players but the fact so many are over 30 and a good bit over 30 plus Mori is not part of the first team. At least I hope he isn't unless Koeman can coach his rashness out of him.

I am not arsed about the older age of the players if it gives us a bigger impact this season in the short term. Williams is an improvement and arguably our best centre half, bolasie only really has to contribute for 2-3 years, stek is a goalkeeper, and jags is probably not signing a new contract. Point is, if it gets us europe this season then fantastic, if the policy always signed 30 year olds then i would then start to question that policy.

Gueye is 26.

Lukaku and Barkley are exceptions of course.

You think deulofeu and mori will be regulars? Cant see it.

Mori less so, but del will be. I actually think by next year Del will be one of our stars of the season, everything just points to him finally having a good season now he has a fitness coach to get him playing over 90 minutes.

@ijjysmith then i stand corrected then

You're forgetting to factor in that thanks to the last regime we have been tosh for the past two years mate.

I wasn't happy with Moyes towards the end of his tenure, but we were always top 7/8 regulars.

Martinez had turned us into a mid-table side, ultimately.
I agree with that. the position isnt what has hurt us more than the fact we just have fallen away from clubs like west ham stoke and southampton simply because they have consistently finished top half.

In fact it puts the whole support of martinez into perspective now when you consider we are as desirable as west brom for a club to sign for based on this window.

I know champions league footy for the top players is a big pull, but I would love to know who is negotiating with the top players we have allegedly been dealing with, we're offering big wages, have a manager who is a big name in footy (was a world class player) we supposedly have huge investment, a top stadium on the docks supposedly on the horizon, as I say, I would love to know who is selling 'The project' to these players, because I can't believe that at least one of them couldn't have been convinced, and said "I want to be part of that"

I can't be sure mate.

But ultimately I think the fact is that the 'project' is a hard sell to players who are in their prime and can rightly demand CL football.

Perez for example, was seemingly happy to join until Arsenal jumped in - which is understandable, as they already offer what we probably are saying we hope to offer in one or two years.

It's a lot easier to sell a long-term 'project' to a younger player or a player like Bolasie/Williams, who have been the best players at mid-table clubs and are looking to get themselves to the next level, than to players who have been winning titles or, conversely, haven't been but are good enough to play for a side that has (e.g. Witsel, Carvalho)

We have to except we are not players first choice, We will have to wait till late in the window, when players options are more limited,

Anyway thank god this window closes at 11pm wednesday,we can go back to our footy, and open the January transfer thread on thursday then lol,no doubt people, papers or tv will say we missed out on whatever player on the deadline day itself,it feels like old times were we do the work on transfers and others come from no were and sign them after we did the donkey work

Don't worry we'll just sugar coat it and make excuse after excuse for the fact we haven't improved one bit and not spent a penny except money brought in.

#shambles
What do you want mate? Signings or improvement? The two are totally different. We have been knocked back by a number of players who would've improved us. Do you want Walsh to tie them up in the garage.

We haven't at all though Ash have we?

Come on mate?

Who have those clubs signed this window that are better than what we have brought in? Nobody!

Stoke - Joe Allen

West Ham - Feghouli (on a free - questions about his attitude and he is now injured), Tore (on loan, looks a one-trick pony), Nordtveit (on a free, not exactly top class), Masuaku (£5m from Olympiacos as a replacement for the injured Cresswell), Calleri (on loan from an Argentinian club), Ayew (£20mil, now out injured for three months).

S'ton - they've sold two of their best players and haven't really brought in any players that we wouldn't have been able to get had we been in for them...

Stek - 33

Williams - 32
Jagielka - 34
Mori - 25
Holgate - 19
Baines - 31
Oviedo - 26

McCarthy - 25
Barry - 35
Gueye - 26
Gibson - 28
Cleverley - 27
Barkley - 22

Mirallas - 28
Deulofeu - 22
Lukaku - 23
Kone - 32
Bolasie - 27

That is every player that has featured in the three competitive games so far this season Zat.

In total, six of the 18 over 30 (Barry has been our best player, yet again, and Stek has made some outstanding saves out of that bunch).

Six of the 18 are below the magic '26' - Mori, McCarthy, Barkley, Del, Lukaku, Holgate. I'd say Mori has been the weakest performer out of all of them.

Which means the final third of players are players as you could describe as been in their 'prime' years.

That's very balanced however you look at it.

You forgot The Aaron.

Yeah that's a good point. Funnily enough, I pointed this out to one of the lads who was having a pop at Witsel.
