Sod a loan. Both parties should be thinking long term for the investment required and if he isn't willing to commit to more than a year than so be it. He clearly has no future at City so a loan to us is basically him saying "if someone better comes along I want to explore my options."

Agree. Think we could afford the wages but we know City are desperate to get rid and we are the only viable option (level and location). The longer this goes on the more City are likely to pay part of his wages.

Equally presumably we were asking City to pay a certain amount of his wages, which doesn't exactly scream 'we are desperate for you to join us'.
 

I've said all along that IF this goes through it will be late in the window.

Not saying it definitely will, but the King article proves nothing at this stage.

I think if we were loaning a player out to a Prem club (as indeed we are), we'd expect the loaning club to be covering his wages.
