Sunderlanil Middlesboro is 100% a derby!

Same as any game between Newcastle, Sunderland, boro, Darlington, Hartlepool. All Tyne Tees area.

Not for me. I want to beat them of course but I don't know any Boro fans. I was even pleased for them when they won the league cup.

Newcastle on the other hand I hope go bust. Boro however class it as a derby. If we lose I'll be over it soon enough. Again, losing to Newcastle, is a different matter (not that I remember how that feels mind :celebrate:

You have to mix with Geordies though, don't we mate?

Unfortunate drawback of living here...

Sunderland fans won't be happy with that statement as they are wearside.

Middlesbrough v Sunderland is the Tees - wear derby.

I know it's wearside, I just used the TV region Tyne Tees. Obviously Sunderland is between Newcastle & Middlesboro.

Derby isn't an exact term btw.

a sports match between two rival teams from the same area.
noun: local derby; plural no

This is the reason he will be off i think, Sams gone and no immediate increase

I don't blame him for wanting to go. Man who signed you leaving is as good an excuse as any! Everyone has the right to move employers, but there's a right way to do it & a wrong way. This might come off for him & for us, time will tell. Look at the likes of Berahino. I'm sure he wouldn't be at West Brom if he conducted himself better. I'll bet a few managers have looked at him & thought nah!!!

It is.

Plenty of people up here have been talking about it all week.

It's not a derby on he scale of the Tyne Wear Derby, but the Wear Tees Derby is important enough too.

I've heard Mackems belt on about how much they'll teach those Smoggies a lesson all week.

Mate i lived up there for years, it may be treated as a derby, but it isn't, Liverpool against the Mancs or us against City aren't Derbies either - no matter Sky trying to do a 'north west derby' or 'north east derby' tag onto them to make them sound more exciting,

Cna't wait till we play Spouthampton in the 'Koeman Derby' or maybe we can tag irt a s the 'Port Cities Derby'

Derby for me anyeways will always be the team from the same City, or in Londons case the closest rival in that City or on one town teams like Sudnerland - it'll be the nearest local rival - so Newcastle. Else you get into the situation where half of Arsenals games every season are Derbies

Just cos the fans don't like a team and want to smash them doesn't make it a Derby game, just means they don't like them, i can't stand Newcastle but not gonna start calling it a Northern Derby when we play them
