We played like Stoke. The writer is an Evertonian and not a spurs fan.
I see your on the wind up again either that or be honest your disappointed with today - a good defeat and it must feel like Christmas Day for you. For once try to take some positive or log off.

First half it was clear what Koeman had instilled into the team and we really had the better of Spurs. Should have been at least 2 - 0 at half time.
Second half was poor, back to the bad old days of the last two seasons.
We are clearly 4 or 5 players short of being a a top six team and Koeman's comments about lack of fitness are spot on.
Overall, very disappointed that we still looked like a Martinez team, especially in the second half.

This game just goes to show what a difference a good manager makes. One that actually gathers and uses info about the opposing team and builds his game plan accordingly (we did not have that in the last 3 years). Tottenham's strenghts were nowhere to be seen almost all game and Kane and Ericsson had practically zero effect on the run of play. The subs were very good and with a perfect timing too. Good job by Koeman!
However, I am really looking forward to see how will Koeman play against the so called lesser teams and especially at Goodison. Finding a way past compact deffensive teams has been a great issue in the last couple of seasons.

Thought we carried a good threat against one of the league's best defence's. Problem was the front three just weren't consistent. Flashes of brilliance with bad touches, lazy flicks, underhit passes, poor finishing, mixed in.

...I only saw the 2nd half to be fair but that was like an away performance, we were under the cosh and I never thought we offered a threat on the break but I'm sure that is a requirement we can fill.

Positives:

Deulofeu and Mirallas both looked up for it. Whilst they struggled with the final ball, against one of the best defences last season, their work rate and pressing was hugely improved.

Idrissa Gueye. What a signing this could be. Did everything we thought McCarthy was going to do 2 years ago.

Stekelenburg. Earnt himself another chance at the shirt. A couple of fantastic saves at the end, and crucially, brilliant distribution.

The defence. Whilst still not perfect, 5 of the back 6 were brilliant in my opinion. Only Baines flattered to deceive (close the winger down ffs!!). McCarthy found a role he can excel in, Holegate looks a huge talent, Jagielka was his excellent self and Mori is looking more and more the bargain.

Barry. Reliably did what he needed to.

The fans. Whilst there are murmurs of discontent, especially online, the fans at the ground made a huge sound today. Particularly liked the reaction to conceding. Straight back into the singing, spurring (pun intended) the players on.

Negatives:

Fitness. Barkley, Deulofeu, Mirallas especially looked shattered. All forwards, who never had to press under Martinez. When we can play for 90 minutes, we will look a force.

Space out wide. Linked to the previous pint, when Rose and Walker weren't being held back by Mirallas and Deulofeu, they overlapped Baines and McCarthy. This ultimately led to their goal.

Hard fought point. Probably deserved given the balance overall. Gotta figure out where the goals will come from though. Hopefully Rom brings that. It's been quite some time (including friendlies) since we've even scored a non-set piece goal. Gotta get another striker in too. Kone seems to have gotten even worse.

Bossed it 1st half mate. Like I said, fair play, Potch shifted Spurs about, and our options were less, er, helpful.

First half was far better and we created a few decent chances. Legs gave out in the second.

..yep, I understand that but we didn't have any threat in the 2nd half. Poch clearly sorted Spurs out but we had little or no threat. When we are under pressure we need to counter with real pace and direction, I never thought we looked likely to score.

Obvious Spurs supporter. If I supported them I would probably have seen the game the same way.

As an Everton supporter I saw that we were compact in defense, leading them on to us then stopping their attack with relative ease and hitting them on the break with pace and movement leading to half that should have saw us 2 or 3 goals to the good.

All about perspective but it is pretty damning since he's a professional journalist that he can't judge it objectively.

We basically played a lot like Leicester last season.
Paul Wilson is an Everton fan mate. And he's right, we put in a shift but there was no creativity. Spurs are the benchmark we should be aiming for: pressing game with a lot of players capable of finding each other on the break and a lot of guile.
