Doesnt mention Bony by name in any of the quotes I can see?

Everton have been strongly linked with Bony this summer and the Ivory Coast man was offered as a makeweight in a deal for John Stones.

But the Blues turned down the chance to sign Bony in favour of a straight cash deal with City for Stones.

“That is one of the positions where we are looking,” Koeman told the ECHO.

“It is that position and that is one of the reasons why I put Deulofeu in front at No9 to see if he can occupy that position.”

Isn't that standard Echo? Make up that we don't want him and not back it up with any of the quotes.

This is my point entirely.

Think we've been gullible to think we've got this "war chest"
No evidence of it thus far but there's still time. Not looking likely though.
I don't believe we have to sell to buy either. I suspect the truth is we have a better budget than we had but it's been exaggerated. It's just a question of by how much.

There's also no proof that Witsel agreed to anything but that's not the point.
The point is why would any Champs League level player come to a mid table level club? The obvious answer is financial incentive, a substantial wage premium the same premium that RK's agent demanded. Our seeming unwillingness to offer this to player targets is not condusive with having a £100m level budget.

So you would be OK with us overpaying fees AND wages to get these deals done no matter what it would take?

It would set a very bad precedent.
