Not blaming any of the players mate - or even Martinez/Koeman. It's just that Baines and Pienaar had this almost telepathic understanding but equally none of our wide players since have been in the same mould as Pienaar.

It's why Mata would be such astute signing as well IMO, but Koeman may well be looking to go in a different direction.

Btw, Baines still gets forward and did under RM, but he was never played in as nobody was in that little pocket that Pienaar always picked up which in turn opened up the space for Baines to run into.

who would have thought how hard it would be to replace someone like Pienaar who cost us 2m first time round.

What a boss player, covered defense and got stuck in, brilliant feet, telepathic understanding with Baines, assisted the as assister time after time!!!

No doubt Moyes purchased a couple of absolute gems in his time and Pienaar was right up there

absolutely mate. those players are so rare and the top ones cost mega money, but I don't think even Mata/Silva would ever be as good at doing what Pienaar could in his prime.

Don't get me wrong, better players overall, but he was a genius at times and we took it for granted tbh. Last two seasons we've missed it massively.

Obvious we've now got to go in a slightly different direction, but getting Mata in as well would be superb.

He's a good out ball. Just hope it isn't done to excess. We don't want Moyes' hoofball back.

It won't be Dave. Our forward lads can all play, Koeman needed to sort out the defence first and to an extent work from the back.

I think he just wants a team that can mix it up - that has no set style. TBH I think that suits Everton down to the ground

Martinez dropped an absolute bollock in not finding a replacement for him. Could Mata play there? not sure if he could though Mata is a quality player in his own right so wouldn't say no. Baines has suffered massively without Pienaar because he needs someone to cover defensively when he goes forward. Baines was always the one who whipped in the crosses where Pienaar was always more intricate with one twos around the box.

Boss player, loved watching him play for Everton and would love to find a gem like that again. Like you said mate it's getting harder and harder to find them

I agree mate. Defence needed gutting. We'll get another CB and hopefully sort out FB positions with good cover. I wouldn't change too much outside of the defence. We're ok further up the pitch.

that's exactly how it should be, mix power and strength with guile and agility. All the videos I've watched of the 80's side had everything - goals due to pressure, boss counter attack goals, precision pass goals, long ball goals, putting a foot and a head in where it hurts defending and of course the best keeper ever Southall just in case they got through ;)

Agree defensively but do also think we need some 'spark' - we can look very flat at times and that was really what my point about our player being very 'samey' came from.

Bolasie definitely offers something different in that he has a bit more of a natural 'presence' about him due to his size than say, Kev or Del, and we still need a striker to compliment Rom who isn't Kone...

Obviously, if Mata is available I'd love him to come in.

Also do think we'll see a deeper midfielder - again with a bit more presence - come in/moved for, but think we'll be looking to shift a few (probably one or two of Gibbo/McCarthy/Cleverley).

Welcome back dave,

yeah Palace used him a lot as a get out against us last season at Goodison, boy was he quick, he left Seamus for dead a couple of times that night.

Koeman is doing what a good manager should do and attempting to sort out the defence. Removing Stones was, for me, paramount, especially at that price. Not guaranteed he's got it right but definitely the place to start. Moyes had the most boring EFC team I've had the pleasure to witness in 50 years but they still finished 4th by not conceding. You pays your money and makes your choice.

It'd be interesting to see what his "Assist, Assist" stats are too. Like what if he megged a guy for shits and giggles, then passed it to someone who passed it to that next person who then scored. Yer get me? Assista
Lost me with that reply...completely lost me

Too many players in a window though can be hard to integrate.

Personally I'd drop Barkley back to give us some punch from deep and give Deulofeu the chance of popping up where he wants. I think GD could do a similar job for Koeman as Lallana did for him at Southampton.

Thanks mate.

Yeah, he can be destructive. Is he a one trick pony though?

It sounds good when you out it that way. The reality, unfortunately, will probably be Bolasie head down and bumping into a thicket of defenders legs who deal with him no problem.

I'm sure he's capable of head slapping frustration tbh. However, as an option in the squad, he'll give us a different option to what we have imo. If Koeman can work on his decision making, as opposed to that beaut Pardew, I think he'll be a good addition personally. Daft money like, but it's the mad market unfortunately
