I think this one is being dragged out to allow us all to temper the absolute direness of this transfer. Already it has gone from complete outrage yesterday to some people seemingly trying to convince themselves that this is a good player. At this rate, next week we'll all be thinking that the money we're offering for him is a bargain and then we'll make the signing.
I'm refusing to get sucked into this. If this player goes for anything near the price mentioned, it will make a complete mockery of the fee we received for Stones. Stones is worth a minimum of 3 times what this lad is worth and I'd suggest it should be closer to five times. It's like selling Buckingham Palace and spending 75% of the sale price on a two bed terrace in Grimsby just because you have the money and need somewhere to sleep. It's just stupid. I hope Moshiri thinks this way too. I can't believe that I am saying this, but I'd take a gamble at 10mil but only as a naive show of faith to Koeman and Walsh. To me, on a good day he is at best a Darren Huckerby. I just watched a YouTube video to convince me otherwise and of the 6 minutes of his highlights I think he spent 5 of them on the floor. I admit that the guy can run, but so could Forest Gump.
The argument for selling Stones in order to allow us to increase our wage pot convinced me that Stones had to go for the benefit of the club. His sale will help us entice better players to the club with more competitive wages on offer. If this allows us to go for the better players surely it makes sense to do just that. They won't all want to come but we can have plans b, c and d to fall back on. There are enough good players out there for us not to have to use the Chinese alphabet to fit this guy in as an option.
