The second teams see a new owner with cash to wave around, teams will bend them over to make a signing. Yes, the league is rich with the new TV deal. BUT I guarantee Moshiri's introduction has jacked up the prices.

We should sign a British player instead

I just wonder whether he expected more and we thought after one year (half a season) in the prem didn't warrant what he wanted. I have a suspicion that if we were to go after Koulibally we would roll out the red carpet and offer anything he wanted.
I get what you're saying but still doubt he'd come, we don't have the recent footballing accomplishments to attract truly top class players at the moment. I see people post oh but UTD and Chelsea dont have CL either....Those two clubs have won things in recent years, we havent won anything since 95. All we have to offer top class players is money. It's like the Witsel situation we've offered Zenit more than anyone else but he's holding out for the well-known italian clubs like Juve

we've asked his agent to leak rumours to the press making it seem like other more nouveau-riche teams want him, as only then will our own petulant supporters want him.

it's the ol' Antoine-Augustin Parmentier potato trick:

"Thanks largely to Parmentier's efforts, the Paris Faculty of Medicine declared potatoes edible in 1772. Still, resistance continued, and Parmentier was prevented from using his test garden at the Invalides hospital, where he was pharmacist, by the religious community that owned the land, whose complaints resulted in the suppression of Parmentier's post at the Invalides.

Parmentier therefore began a series of publicity stunts for which he remains notable today, hosting dinners at which potato dishes featured prominently and guests included luminaries such as Benjamin Franklin and Antoine Lavoisier, giving bouquets of potato blossoms to the King and Queen, and surrounding his potato patch at Sablons with armed guards to suggest valuable goods — then instructing them to accept any and all bribes from civilians and withdrawing them at night so the greedy crowd could 'steal' the potatoes."

Oh I have no illusions about where we are in the game in regards to competitors but with the Witsel situation represents good value for money if there is a midfield need in your team instead of waiting for him on a free. Koulibally however with his contract situation being different I think that will naturally rule out clubs that don't want to pay his asking price. It's also funny to me that people complain about money ruining the game but the biggest draw for us now is the fact we can offer much higher wages. We'll see what we're like at the end of the window but I wouldn't be surprised to see us get a few players that would previously been far out of our reach.

This is why I'm hoping for Mata because I think there's some reasons outside of cash that could be a draw for him(familiar with the Prem, played for Koeman before, stay in the NW) that wouldn't be a draw for other players
