Why? Most exciting period in my lifetime. We have the resources to compete on a level playing field with our historical peers. We have an owner committed to being ambitious as shown by his actions already, the old regime is effectively gone, and we have real movement on a new stadium, all at a time when power is shifting in the premier league and it is becoming a real competition again. How is this situation not better than any we have been in since the inception of the premier league?

You might be too young to remember, but we won a trophy since the inception of the premier league, a proper one. That was special, can't believe it's been 21 years.

Nothing against you mate, but that really winds me up!
Please don't say the likes of Chelsea are our historical peers?
Also, 2016 - 1878 = 138 years, sky was not around then. Football happened before the premier league and will after it.
If you know your history....

You shouldn't continually look back to the past, but occasionally it doesn't hurt

You really think the media give Soton adulation? Theres no adulation mate, just respect for fighting above their weight a bit like the respect we were getting when Bobby took us to 5th, I bet people are saying the same about us now though, years of doing sod all, all of a sudden come into some money, expectations go through the roof. The so called media 'adulation' you speak of comes from them performing well. Now, here's a thing you seem to have trouble grasping, judging by some of your bizarre, paranoid posts. The media perception of us, or anyone, for that matter, is directly corrulated by how well we do on the pitch. Weird eh?
Fair comment, all that. I think the club lost it's way when it didn't adapt when the Premier League was formed. We stagnated.

We've had occasional good periods, but the only real positive I take out or the last 25 years is that we are still in the top flight, and I take
great pride in that.

We have a chance to move up now. Let's take it.

I remember it, it was brilliant, I also knew at the time it was a one off. We had been a poor side for a few years and this was the last hurrah for some great players. You could see it was just what it was, a good cup run, it was not the start of a period of sustainable success, this could be.

I meant teams like Liverpool Arsenal United Spurs etc. We finally have the money to go back to battling them rather than scrapping with the lower mid table sides for league positions and transfers. I'm well aware there was football before 1992, my point is though that since the realisation that we were not going to follow up our league win of 87 in the years that followed (which was also the start of the prem years), has there been a time when you've ever been more confident of success? We've not had the resources in place to have a proper go. Now we have, and what's more the league is back to being competitive and we already have top players in the team. All things to be excited about in my book.

I honestly don't get what these resources are. Still nowhere near as wealthy as half a dozen clubs above us - unless there's some shadowy figure behind Moshiri yet to be revealed.

O K, so we can get the ground some new cladding and what have you, but a lot of what is yacked about is just pure speculation unless and until we see the big stuff.
