Feel free to pull me up over this but my understanding is that usually deals go like this.

  1. Identify player we are interested in
  2. Bid for player
  3. Agree terms with player
  4. Sign player to contract

Now, all this talk about us being close to signing X and Y (Before the jokes come out yes they can play in goal and in the hole) and I haven't seen any official confirmations of us reaching step 2 for any player we are linked with currently.

But people still expect signings tomorrow?

Identify
Agree Terms (Agent)
Bid
Wait
Agree Terms again
Sign

just got some info from a source at the club. never met him face to face but signs off all his text messages as "suntan bob"

says we have contracts with Mata witsel and a German goalie who's name looked like Lego (contract was in smaller font). All of them have been signed by the players but not by us yet. on the Everton side under the signature block it said signed by director of football so we couldn't sign until now. Now Walsh is just finishing his press duties and is planning to sign the contracts tonight, but it may take another day or so as Kenwright got wind that we are spending 140mm pounds between the 3 signings and reportedly hid the contracts

Just saw Alan Irwin on sky sports, he could be Suntan Bob

Seems a bit pointless agreeing terms before the bid only to have to go and do it again after it is accepted?

From my understanding, it's a case of seeing if the players fancies the move and agreeing to preliminary details. I.e. Say we want Mata, we get in touch with his rep and sound out interest. Say the interest to move is there, say we can offer 100-140k, go back to him. Get a price from the agent as to which United will agree and move from there.

That's what I know from people who are well more sauced than I am like.

@The Esk

Can clarify????!!

I like the idea of Bill hiding the contracts behind the trophy cabinet

It's just about feasible that completed contracts have been held, but the £140 million doesn't appear correct unless it was including wages over the period of contract.

It ties in with information I've shared previously that we had agreements with Witsel and Mata - let's see what happens in the next few days.
