Pretty bad for us fans knowing that Witsel doesn't want to join us at all, so is holding out as long as possible for a more attractive offer to come to fruition. Now the only reason he'll end up joining us is because nobody else put more money in front of him, not because he genuinely wants to be here or respects the club.

Contracts and fees can be agreed prior to a medical, anyone remember Leroy Fer fiasco when we tried to change the terms so they pulled the plug on us.

Axel could sign now, even on holiday. Not to hard to send someone out to him or send the documents to his hotel.

Possibly, but as with any deal in business the most important part is closing it because anything can happen.

In my opinion and that's all this is, we have agreed a fee with Zenit and wages in principle with his agent but nothing has been signed while he is on holiday. In the meantime has agent could be busy discussing with potential suitors to see if he can get a better deal for his client.

Unfortunately that's life, if we were let's say Spurs the deal would be complete by now.

From what we know Witsel is due back in Russia today and given that he'd have to fly from there to Liverpool to do a medical before any announcement I'd say there's close to zero chance of anything happening until next week at the earliest.
Notwithstanding the fact that the manager himself won't be there to do a press conference until next week anyway. Hopefully no more attractive option presents itself to the player before we have a chance to complete.

When I said Spurs, I meant if we were in the Champions league this deal would be done and dusted. I believe we enquired about that Dutch striker, but as with stuff I get told I take it with a pinch of salt.
