Stones tells Everton he wants Man City transfer

It isnt about needing the cash for players, its about needing the profit to fund the wages under the new TV deal rules. I am 100% certain that is why we dug in last summer until the take over was confirmed. And I am also 100% certain that once we did dig in, the reason was probably explained in a quiet way to the relevant parties involved.

Thing is I'm really not that bothered considering some of his performances last season that lead him to being dropped. I know we will need to sell to fund the spending spree this summer with FFP but some of his performances were awful last season so if he wants to walk then let him go ( if indeed that convo took place with Koeman ).

He is a good player and can become great but could also go the other way

Look at Sterling :coffee:

Not bothered. He's massively overrated. Let's milk City dry for him and spend the money on a couple better players. They only really want him because they've filled their team full of foreigners and now need to buy some decent homegrown players.

Hasn't been the same player ever since Distin was dropped and then released, his partnership in his breakthrough season with Distin was the best he had played for us and resulted in our best run of form, for some reason it was instantly broken up in favour of at that time an out of form Jags.

Last 2 seasons he hasn't lived up to the potential (yet) and for all his composure on the ball he hasn't really developed into a ball playing defender just more of a risk taking defender and his defensive work has certainly shown no improvements (the utd game the exception when he looked his old self throwing his body at everything)

May well develop into one of the best but it's going to take a lot of the correct coaching (unlike under RM) and if he is in a rush to reach the top then let him go and right now we could get better defensively particularly in the air, we just won't get someone who has the potential to reach the level he could if it clicks for him.

The defence will be improved due to change in manager and system. Not due to John Stones going[/
Since when is wanting to play under the world's best manager and be at one of the country's best clubs (currently) which will be challenging for titles and champions league having an ego?
not an issue with him wanting to go. The ego comment I made stems from him appearing to believe he is a lot better than he actually is,thats the impression I get when watching him.

I still think he could go the way of Rodwell over there if things don't go his way immediately. He looked like he struggled with some of the abuse from the support early in the season and he could get just as bad at the Etihad as they will not have any loyalties to him right now. A bad sending off and couple of boo boys could see it happen. It isn't likely but it is a possibility based on what I saw last season.

Wish him all the best though.

A move could be good for him. A new team with a crowd not craping themselves everytime he dosent boot it out. Under pep who has progressed pique and boetang, probably the 2 best ball playing centre backs around behind ambrose

Didn't want to sell him, especially within the UK, but given he both wants to go and we need the profit if he has to go am glad it appears to be City who seem to have changed their negotiating style since the Lescott farce. Would have hated him to go to Chelsea after they tried their best to tap him up so publicly, or to Mourinho/Woodward at United.

Couldn't care less about him anymore to be honest. Sick of the words stones, mistake and potential now! If he wants out, set the price and sell ASAP!

He is a lovely footballer without any doubt but he is a long way from being a truly top class defender. The first attribute does not necessarily make the other. It might in time, but it will require a change in the management and coaching offered to him and his own attitude as to what is acceptable and what is pragmatic. Good luck to him.

I like Stones but lets be real, he was shocking last season absolutely shocking, £50mill is good business for a boy with a long way to go and believes his own hype to much, matthaus he is not.

We need (if at all possible) to buy in a Centre Back before we sell him. City will get him in the end (and no issue with them) but they'll have to wait just as we have had to in the past.

Look at the best defenders last year - was he near any of these and that includes our captain. Stones is good on the eye but there are clear weakness, defending basic crosses being number 1.

Jags is a far superior defender. He was untouchable in 2009 and but for an horrific knee injury I believe we would have won the cup. Football is so here and now it is easy to forget just how good he was at his peak.

I would also point out that the year we finished 4th we had Stubbs and Weir as centre half's. No cruyff turns or dribbles from the back, but loads of clean sheets.

A defender should defend.

Wait until Big Sam gets hold of him for England.

He will coach him properly.
