Apparently Russian media is referring to their Heroic Countrymen who stood up for the Motherland after provocation from English.
English police are reporting that they observed Russians putting in gumshields, pulling on balaclavas/bandanas & martial arts gloves before attacking.

'What happened then was a co-ordinated ambush by a couple of hundred Russian “ultras”. They charged into the square from a side-street, some prepared for a fight to the point of wearing gum shields. This was organised hooliganism.'

The authorities are guilty of allowing a narrative that allows English fans to be targetted with no reprocussions.

Yet a little bit of amateur digging shows that the Russians had been preparing this for months. Probably as they see English as a way of getting at the USA as their domestic media and the Kremalin has them brainwashed in.
