Kevin Sheedy appreciation thread

A goal against Leicester on a boxing day when he chipped the keeper was brilliant (I think we won 5-1). He could have a nasty side too,I
remember him going over the top on McMahon and leaving him in a crumpled heap in the derby game that ended their long unbeaten run? I loved Kevin Sheedy!

He always seemed very relaxed when playing, we reckoned he played with a walkman on (google it you tawdry yoof) and would casually turn it off to take a corner or free kick.
I was mesmerised by him as a player, met him and his Mrs at a players xmas do and asked if I could have his left sock..he declined but his wife's look of horror stays with me to this day :)

RS lad I shared house with at uni was fuming when we signed him !! Was an absolutely cracking player. A slow start to his Everton career iirc because he lacked pace and did not put his foot in much but was so influential in the mid 80s side. Best 3 sheedy moments.....
Twice taken free kick versus Ipswich in cup QF,
Equaliser in semi vs Luton
Free kick at Anfield and flicking the Vs at the Kop.......we all dream of doing that right???

I was at all of them, he was simply amazing, a true great.

All the great things Sheeds did for us and the funniest thing that sticks in my mind about him was a baltic day at Oldham, the players came out to do their "warm up"(ha halol)about five minutes in Sheeds ambles out and is right in front of all the blues, tries two half arsed attempts at touching his toes, turns around and jogs back to the changieslol

I remember him scoring 2 goals in the 5-0 thrashing we gave Man U at Goodison, the first with an uncharacteristic header which I missed s I was still queuing outside.
If you watch the accompanying clip Sheeds takes a bad head knock in the process of scoring the first, he just picks himself up and gets on with it. Can you imagine today's players doing that?

I was down with a busload of Celtic lads that day as they didn't have a game that weekend, they were well impressed.

My favourite player. you would hear the sound of his foot hitting the ball sometimes, like a cannon

I have no memory of ever seeing him actually run. He ambled. He had so much skill and vision in his locker though. He could single-handedly change a game with a flash of brilliance. Besides the obvious, the one moment that sticks in my mind was the time he was stood just outside the penalty area and the opposition defence was packed. He stood there with the ball at his feet and scooped the ball over all of them. Inch read it and volleyed it home. Amazing.

He was and still is my hero! He was truly world class and a total game changer. If he was around today I have no doubt he would be playing for Real Madrid.

His very late equaliser against Luton in the semifinal still gives me goosebumps!

I remember the 5-0 United game well.He bad been out injured for the previous couple of games and we had been playing everything through Steven on the right.Sheedy came back and destroyed them almost single handedly!

There was also the time it looked like he was leaving for Arsenal( £400,000 was mentioned) and I was gutted. This was well before the internet for news and one night the Echo dropped through the door with the back page headlines "SHEEDY STAYS AT EVERTON".He had only gone and signed a new contract and I was buzzing with delight!!

On a side note, looking back at those 80s videos, those shorts were bordering on the obscene!

As someone in his mid-30's and left footed myself, Sheedy was of course my absolute hero growing up as a kid. So glad he is still involved at the club and by all accounts doing a great job.
