Woke up this morn and returned to this thread. Reading through the 'overnight' posts its clear there's a lot of negativity around the imminent Koeman appointment. I agree its not spectacular, but I'm not sure who would've been apart from Mourinho.
Pellegrini - no, Moyes - hell no, De Boer - intriguing potentially but maybe a gamble.

To me, only Emery (+ Monchi) got people really sitting up. Nobody knows how close we were to actually getting him. Did he want too much? Did he reject our offer? Or did Moshiri simply turn to Koeman once he registered an interest (1st choice and all that). What will be will be. After experiencing the season we've just had with Martinez, its got to be better surely. So whilst I'm not ultra excited with this appointment I'm fine with it. If we can re-build (cos thats certainly whats needed after the last 2 years. All of a sudden we've got money to spend, and a stadium to build. Something to be happy about right there surely.

1-- look at how ajax and psv did in the year following winning the title with the best side in holland.

2-- look at Valencia,Benfica and AZ.

3-- look at how he did at feyenoord and southampton -- probably his best two clubs....kept them stable.

4-- look at what happens when he manages top players with big egos.

5-- look at his tactical ability.....

Then compare and contrast with many other managers.

248 people wanted koeman
305 wanted FDB
800+ wanted emery

For a billionaire investor hes had a shocker here.

So the answer was yes. You are up your own arse.

Cheers mate.

I think of the Seville link Monchi is clearly the more exiting of the two possibilities, the other being Emery.

With regards to Emery I have never been convinced by his league record. I say never - never in the last few weeks that like most of you is when I became aware that he existed.

No mate. You've had a shocker all morning. :coffee:

The Zatmeister looking a little isolated here

Zatty look at it this way

'Monaco refused to let him leave and Wenger chose to stay, but a poor start to the 1994–95 season meant he was dismissed on 17 September 1994, with the team in 17th spot in the table'.

Wenger sacked for poor performance two years before he got the Arsenal gig. Virtually every high level manager has a failure on their record.

Koeman is a good appointment mate. Destined for big things.

Hes failed everywhere bar his last 2 jobs.

Is it not to be expected that he would be on a learning curve in is first posts? I'd rather he be crap early on in his career rather than here.

And I'm not sure Moshiri looks at online polls and says "yep, they're experts, better get whoever has the most votes online".

You don't like him, we get it.

Bore off Zat, you're not even giving him a chance. It's even more pathetic given your staunch defense of a man who clearly wasn't up to the job and had us drifting towards relegation. Your criticism of Koeman is based on years old evidence when, would you believe it, people can actually learn from their mistakes.

He's a better premier league manager than Martinez. Let that sink in, then get behind the man.
