I remember reading here at the time of the takeover that many though Moshiri had to act quickly

I think the reporting of the deal and the subsequent confirmation by Everton on the Saturday afternoon (27th February) was more accelerated than the actual deal itself.

As I've mentioned previously on GOT the news broke of Moshiri's acquisition when Matt Lawton broke the story (with the assistance of Kia Joorabchian) at 18.29 on Friday 26th February. Simultaneously the Daily Mail reported that Usmanov had become the sole beneficial owner of Red & White Holdings - something which was confirmed at the opening of business on Monday by Arsenal with an announcement on ISDX (the exchange that lists Arsenal's shares).

Confusingly, Championat , the largest Russian sports news service mistakenly reported (at 20.03 GMT) that Usmanov had become the owner of Everton despite him owning 30% of Arsenal. This report was then corrected by a statement from Usmanov on Russian Forbes at 21.17 GMT.

Separately, with regards to Moshiri wanting to partner up again with Usmanov - I'm actually of the mind that most successful people actually want to achieve something that they themselves can put their name to rather than achieve either for or with a partner. To date, Moshiri's career and success has been defined by his association with Usmanov rather than his own achievements and it would not be unusual for him to want to make Everton a great success in the future without the assistance of his long time business partner and associate.

Of course, the above is in conjunction with the fact that there has been no indication anywhere until the last 24 hours, of his desire to walk away from Arsenal. Even with the furore over Wenger's proposed contract extension there has been no comment from Usmanov or his people.

ITS ON!!

A slightly out there thought on the Usmanov link, but could it be that in order for Moshiri to completely sell Everton to Mourinho he has had to disclose future plans that neither he nor Usmanov wanted to be public domain, for fear of having to sell his Arsenal stake at a reduced rate.

As was mentioned previously, you can logically speculate some of the links to Usmanov and the possibilities of him joining Moshiri, but in this critical point of Moshiri wanting to hire the best manager for EFC as he possibly can, he has had to tip part of his hand.

As I said, it's an out there thought and is merely speculation, but in my head I can see logic to it.

Alternatively, he's already courting Megson and everyone has been led up the garden path

Arsene Wenger has been backed to remain at Arsenal by the club's second largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov, despite the side's "haunting" failures.

The Frenchman has felt the wrath of some supporters in recent weeks following exits from the Champions league and FA Cup, as poor results have also seen them stumble in their Premier League title charge.

Some fans have taken to unfurling banners calling for Wenger to go following just five league wins since Christmas.

Usmanov recently increased his stake in the club to around 30 per cent
However, Usmanov, who recently increased his stake in the club to around 30 per cent, has offered Wenger his support, saying Arsenal "need" the 66-year-old to remain at the Emirates.

"Arsenal's results are stable," he told Rossiya24. "They are always among the leaders of the English Premier League. This is a good and large sports business project, and I am pleased with it.

"The only thing is that today such situation occurred, like in any sport, there are ups and downs. The club must retain its major symbol and main asset - manager Arsene Wenger.

"Failures have been haunting Arsenal for many years now, they cannot become the EPL champions. This has led to some discontent with Wenger's position as a manager.

"I believe that Arsene Wenger is a great coach, and Arsenal have to give him the opportunity to plan the succession process and leave his legacy when he deems it necessary.

"It is very important for the football club to maintain the principles that were established by those people who created its victories. Arsenal need Arsene Wenger."

Wenger's current contract is set to expire at the end of next season.

Thanks mate, I had not seen that. It does not seem like the report of a man leaving anytime soon.

PS can you add a link to that article thanks

Now, that could make sense if JM was the target, but it completely falls down if not...

:p

Usmanov might well wish Moshiri all the goodwill and best of luck in the world but that doesn't mean he is leaving Arsenal any time soon.

Given how close Usmanov and Moshiri are - were there no questions asked by the league before they sanctioned the deal?

....what I can't understand is why would Usmanov come in now and not when Moshiri first invested. Surely if they wanted to buy EFC as a partnership they would have done it from the outset.
Because you need a buyer for your shares first. Much easier for one to buy the others shares who then takes advantage of a club up for sale and about to be sold to Americans, to get their foot in the door so to speak.

He/they now have plenty of time to get a good price and find a buyer for Usmanovs stake in Arsenal.

Not the most outlandish theory TBH.
