Squad Goldmine

Have to say that Martinez saying they are a golden generation may not be too far off the mark. Only thing he said in last couple of seasons that may come true.

I wouldnt be binning off Garbutt or Oviedo, Niasse i think deserves a full preseason and a bit of patience. Kone i doubt will be going anywhere after signing a new deal though a loan to a promoted team would prob suit most parties and hopefully McGeady would make his switch permenent if Weds came up, though i would say he is on mega wonga.

I really think we could do with 4/5 quality additions depending on outs, right down the spine of the squad, i wouldnt spare the finance on it either 20 mill a pop, that spine is then the standard that must be reached in terms of quality of getting into the everton team and i include the young players in that. If this year has thought us anything that coaching players to the max of thier potential is key rather then just signing players.

Though i havnt finalised who i would really like of the top of my head I rate the following:

Ospina/Pickford
Sigurddson
Yarmelenko
Benteke (depending on Rom)
Berehino
Amavi (Villa)
Ayoze Perez (Newcastle)

And a big aging grock centre half, Dann, Shawcross or Williams.

Theres been a few articles on mourinho over the yeaes and how he builds squads. The 1st thing he does is look at the spine GK/CB/DM/CM/CF and bring in solid consistent players.

When we look at our squad there arent any players we could pick out and say they are too 4 quality just yet although on their day perhaps Stones,Barkley and Lukaku. We have alot of DMs also so i think the other 4 positions in the spine need atrengthening.

As for Garbutt and Oviedo, its a conundrum as LB we will have them + Baines, Connolly and perhaps Galloway as well. So 5 LBs is 3 too many, Amavi is also top quality but we wont loom at him with so many players there already.

what happened to Henen? last I remember he was off to Fleetwood for loan, have they ruined him?

Think he went there and did fine but didnt excel as per the loan thread. Cant see him being at the level we need.

we know Howard has gone, release Hibbert, Osman, Gibson. Their squad places can be taken by Kenny, Davis and Dowell.

Try and flog Mcgeady, Kone, Oviedo and Garbutt or at least loan them out for the season, I am sure there will be takers.

I think the writing is on the wall for Mori and Besic as they did not even make the squad yesterday and obviously Niasse.

As well as he has done this season, I would have to be considering letting Barry go if an offer comes in from the MLS or China.

Lukaku is almost certainly off to PSG in my head so we will need at least 2 new strikers and a keeper.

Not sure I'd agree that he lacks the desire to track back, he looks to me like a little boy lost out on the pitch these days. I think he's been woefully mismanaged by the coaching staff over the last few years, and if we get a strong manager in who demands commitment and desire from all eleven on the pitch then we'll see a much different Ross Barkley imo.

The manager will need to get the best out of him.

I mean its going to be very interesting seeing how we will line up over the season. Its a squad game but will be a balancing act with old players and young....

All of these could play DM/CM/AM at some point even as a squad option:

Besic
Barry
McCarthy
Davies
Tarashaj
Barkley
Dowell
Cleverley
Ledson
Walsh
Williams

Thats a huge amount of players to choose from. Clearly some will be on loan and some may not make the grade but its going to be exciting to see what the new manager intends here...

On the one hand we have the highly experienced Barry at 35 and then Davies at 17 who could be his son....then others coming through with different skill sets also.

Lots of competition and Barkley could be the best of the lot but needs to fit into a position which benefits the team and allows him to fully develop.

I think we would play alot better with 2 high energy types rather than Barry. However he could be invaluable aa we bring through the kids....Davies, Williams,Walsh,Ledson etc could all be mentored by him.

It was DEFINITELY interesting to see Besis and Mori both dropped. Not sure if the "writing is on the wall" as thats for a new manager to decide but a bit odd they were both dropped.

Very seldom works like that though, unless he gets a job on the coaching staff offered too. Think he still has a couple of playing years in him and a stint in the MLS I could well see happening.

23 and not done well at fulham + we seem to have better options?

I liked him last season but galloway and connolly could prove better for us competing with bainez?

Neither Galloway or Connely are really left backs though mate, connely played their in the youth ranks but he's right footed for a start

Yeah forgot holgate!

Agree that alot wont get consistent games and may alternate on loan spells but they will train with the first team and provide depth.

henen and leandro as well as mattioni off i think yes.

Browning one more season after his injury.
Foulds and Joe Williams who could be the best of all to but there are that many. If you ventured to Finch Farm some under 18s with tremendous
prospects.
Although the new manager will need to make some buys, I hope he will not forsake the work being done with the academy and youth levels.

Now we are in the lookout for a new manager and can see the amazing young players coming through I think it's worth evaluating the squad who the new boss has to work with.

GK -- Robles
RB -- Coleman / Kenny
RCB -- Stones / Pennington / Browning
LCB -- Jagielka / Mori / Galloway
LB -- Baines / Connolly
DM -- Barry / McCarthy / Davies / Ledson/ Walsh/Besic
CM -- Cleverley
LW -- Mirallas
AM -- Barkley / Dowell / Tarashaj(?)
RW -- Deulofeu / Lennon
CF -- Lukaku

Out of contract
Hibbert
Osman
Gibson
Pienaar

To be sold
Howard (deal done)
Oviedo
Garbutt
Kone
McAleny
McGeady
Niasse

If we take Unsworth at the 6/7 u21 players ready for the first team and have them as squad players we look really strong depth wise in alot of positions but lack a few really top class additions.

On the face of it, i dont consider this a "top 6 squad" unless we had:

GK -- Must be able to fit into the group and be top class, ideally someone with international experience and ability to organize a defence.

CB -- Someone with incredible leadership skills who can marshall the defence. Our own Terry, Adams, Dave Watson, Richard Gough figure who can inspire the team. This is especially important if we are going to play young players

CM -- We have lacked a true dominant centre midfield player since perhaps Parkinson or Speed or (whisper it) Don Huchison. We need someone in there who other teams see his name on the teamsheet and dont look forward to a midfield battle. The kids coming through may be the answer in 2/3 seasons but we need someone who can consistently dominate games now.

LW-- Mirallas is hot/cold and who knows if he will stay this summer. If Deulofeu was able to last 90mins and was on form all season he would be some player, we need the same on the left side.

CF-- Niasse looks like a disaster, however even if he comes good we still need someone to offer an alternative to Lukaku in attack.

If we lose the out of contract players and sell off the deadwood we will have a huge amount in the wage budget. Moshiri and the TV money should enable us to go and sign some top notch players...

If we sign the above player types for the 5 positions (half a team!) We will then hopefully have a "top 6 squad" which should improve each season as the young players get more experience.

As unsworth said, its a goldmine for a new manager.

Have you been away mate ?

We've missed you x
