agreed mate. tbh I have got a bit emotional reading that but I've always been a bit of a soft arse when it comes to anything related to Everton.

I've said it many times, not a world class keeper by any stretch but well worth what we paid for him and then some.

All the best Tim, hope you have an unspectacular day where the only thing you need to do is clap goal after goal after goal from the boys in Blue and you get to watch the last match as a fan to take it all in.
' A bit of a soft arse when it comes to Everton ' ! Me too mate!

Nice statement. It's easier to like him again now he's not stinking out the place. And even then every player gets over the hill eventually, but I was disappointed in his attitude when he was in poor form.

That said he was a very good keeper for a fair few years for us. He certainly helped abolish the days of Paul Gerrard and Richard Wright. Good luck to him.

Jeez you lot have short memories.

Slating someone for getting old. Harsh. Howard, in his prime was a decent keeper, not without weaknesses, but every player has weaknesses. He used up the reserve pool in a fantastic world cup performance (shame that showing wasn't in the royal blue).

And to slate him for playing, when the manager is picking him is silly as well.

We are down to one essentially meaningless game to wrap up a forgettable season. Give a player who has been with us for nigh on 10 years, a final hurrah is a nice thing to do. Something that often gets overlooked in today's game.

We are different. We are better than that, and you should be celebrating that fact.

Excellent post, I agree with all of it. The last line is very telling as well. Unfortunately, and I say this with a heavy heart, in my long experience of watching Everton, it is plain that many of our current 'supporters' are not 'better than that.' I don't know whether its just a sociological change that has created the vicious, personal abuse that some supporters rely on to make their point, or whether there is a deeper reason, closer to home, simply nurtured by the frustration caused by lack of success. 'Team spirit' should apply to supporters as well as players...and one should support the other. When a team is having a difficult time is the time when support should be at its greatest and most vocal. By all means have opinions, and express them freely, but remember that as supporters , our wider brief is to'support'.

As crap as he has been the past two seasons, incredible servant to the club. Deserves a good send off (as did Cahill). Has he reached 10 years or is he just short of it? I only asked as I thought a testimonial would be arranged if he had. Got a feeling he's on 9 though?
