Small Time Mentality

I can give you a 10,000 word essay on why Liverpool deserve zero respect from anyone.

Why you would need me to do that to see it is another question entirely.

Not expecting him to mate - he actually is.

But we're not discussing how we as Evertonians perceive our biggest rivals as a club in terms of our hatred for them and lack of respect are we? The original post said:

"The other lot across the park despite not being a top club anymore still demand some kind of respect from media and other clubs. Why don't we?"

If people can't see why the RS would get respect from the media for achievements they had in the 70's and 80's, and for the various things they've done in the PL era then I have to admit i'm surprised.

I personally don't respect their current team, or their club or fanbase, but something I am envious of is there ability to turn up in big games or when they have little hope and pull off results that people don't expect of them. All Everton have done since the 1995 FA Cup final is let me down (I was born in the late 80's).

Complete nonsense all this wallowing in imaginary self pity...no wonder the RS phoneys call us 'bitter'. EVERTON ARE A MASSIVE CLUB. Always were and always will be. Massive clubs, all of them, can have, do have lean years with regard to trophies etc, but it does not stop them being a MASSIVE CLUB. It is not Everton who are suggesting Howe ,Dyche and the like as our next coach, it is the media. Aston Villa are a massive club...just take a look at how the media have treated them. We have massive support...a massive fan base...if you are an Evertonian you are one of a brotherhood that covers the whole planet. So....get a grip you lot....Thanks Roberto, you did your best, and failed, like others before you. There is no shame in failure if you try your best. Good luck with your next job, and thank you for your dignity in those final, stressful days.
We are Everton and from this moment WE MOVE ON...we turn our backs on negativity, ignore the media unless they're praising us, and from now on we start to WIN FOOTBALL MATCHES again, because all through our history that is what we do better than most clubs.
I have supported Everton for nearly 70 years, and I have been proud, for every minute of that time. I have learned humility, I have learned the joy of winning, and all about the dismay of losing, but my pride in being an Evertonian has never deserted me.
SOME OF YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'RE BORN. Just remember, next season, we are a MASSIVE club, and we are moving forward.

I find it funny that people claim Moyes started the small time mentality. If you look at the decade before he arrived I'd say the small time mentality was well entrenched. If anything he started us setting our sights higher, and we were only out performed by clubs who had huge financial advantages over us.

You have to be 40+ years of age to really remember Everton being successful so it's not surprising that the huge amount of people look at us like we are equal to Stoke.

It's one thing to know and respect your past but it's completely another thing to live in it and expect things handed to you because of your past successes.

We've won nothing in the last 21 years, we haven't won the league in 29 years, our stadium is outdated, our perception in the media is terrible etc.

We ARE mediocre right now, so we can only wait and hope that Moshiri turns it around.

To be honest, even younger people in their twenties and thirties would know Stoke are not the "equal" of Everton.

For a start, Stoke were yo-yoing between the second and third tier of English football for a significant majority of their young lives, only coming back to the top flight about seven or eight years ago after going down decades beforehand.

And for most of the time since their return they were reviled as Tony Pulis's archetypical anti-football, hoofballist thugs with Shawcross as their poster boy.

We may not be an elite club for the moment and indeed our best days are a long time ago but come on.....it really does reek of self loathing to look for reasons to believe any rational reading of even recent history would lead any sensible person to believe Stoke are our equal.

And as I said in another post, Stoke are above us yet their manager is being touted as being in the frame for our job.

There is no way an Everton manager would ever be leaving Goodison to go to Stoke, nor would the press be speculating on it.

:)

Im scared to praise David on here incase I get egged.

It isn't really surprising though. We haven't won anything in 21 years and are about to finish in the bottom half for consecutive years. That is Kenwright's legacy, a mediocre Everton.

I think the tide began to turn yesterday though. I know it isn't a nice thing but I feel so much more positive after Martinez's sacking. What a difference there is being in for Mourinho, De Boer, Pelligrini and Koeman rather than Neville, Stubbs and some biff that just relegated this club. We're moving up from this point.

Other clubs?

Everyone hates the racist bellends.

I can see it clearly mate.

Kopite journalists, commentators and ex players - they're everywhere, like rats.

Leicester have just won the Premiership Man Utd probably will miss out on cl for next season.
Are Leicester a bigger club than Utd, of course not. The challenge for Leicester is to be able to continue to build on their success and continue to grow as a club.

Everton are a huge club, but due to lack of funding and an old fashioned ground we have slipped to being a midtable club.

The challenge for Everton to become accepted again as a big club is a lot less than the challenge facing Leicester.
One or two trophies , a couple of top four finishes and people will very quickly accept that Everton are a top team, this is certainly true of supporters who have been following football for some years.

The appointment of a big name manager would a first step, but if they are not ready to join us what can we do ?
Spending big during the summer would be another step, but above all it will be the results we get next season that counts.

Easy for the older fans to say this having had the luxury of seeing winning teams. For anyone under 30, we've never had the "joy of winning" lol

When Everton can get to Semi Finals against perceived bigger teams and win, then i'll accept us as a top club. When Everton go to Anfield and don't lose by a 3 or 4 goal margin, or lose when we have 11 men and they have 10, then i'll be happy.

Self pitying over from me anyway!

I'm actually optimistic about our future and am looking forward to what happens in the Summer.

There good at promoting their brand something we're incapable of

We have Sharpy lauding Moyes and Martinez's mediocrity and bigging up Chang

They have 100's of ex players on radio on TV and in the papers constantly bigging them up and reminding everyone of their glory days
